I'm looking forward to the replies on this one. Not to hijack, but have you seen the "soft armor that hardens on impact?" First Gear has it. Saw that on YouTube and a client had some they were selling for rib protectors for quarterbacks. Amazing stuff.

Is that the D3O stuff?  I saw some videos when they first introduced the material.  There weren't many products available for it at the time, but it looked ideal for motorcycle armor.

I've been wanting to get the underpants, but just too cheap to let loose of the bucks. :-\

D3o armor, yes.

FIRSTGEAR d3o Demo - Soft armor that hardens on impact.    This video was posted by FirstGear last year.

I saw a video on YouTube of a guy getting whacked in the ribs with a baseball bat and no problems. I also saw on the video a guy wrap a piece around a finger and whack it with a hammer. Same result. But I never saw what was said about abrasion. It is supposedly not a permanent hardening that required replacement but returns to it's shape. Wonder what it costs?

I like this video of the stuff:

Smack Me On The Head With A Shovel!

There are a bunch more videos on YouTube, if you search for d3o.

Yes, I bought the Bohn pants earlier this year.
It's true that it fits under the jeans you normally wear.
There is very little bulk at the waistline.
But I removed the thigh pads - I only use the hip and knee pads.
