Title: New C14 rider
Post by: pacman1 on January 27, 2017, 11:59:37 AM
Just picked up a 2010.  I'm new to the Concours, but I've been riding Kawasakis since forever.  Rode it home from Houston to Ft Worth and it performed great.

First and second order of business is a good set of tires, then the https://sites.google.com/site/shoodabenengineering/concours1400' (https://sites.google.com/site/shoodabenengineering/concours1400')Shoodaben Evolution ECU flash.  My only nitpick about the bike is the abrupt off-on throttle transition, and it sounds like the Evolution flash is the cure for that.  I'll probably also replace the throttle tube with a http://www.g2ergo.com/store/g2-street-tamer-throttle-tube/' (http://'G2 Throttle Tamer if there's still some jerkiness after the flash.  MamaKaw has never been known for precision throttle mechanisms.

Anyway, those are the plans for the immediate future, other than racking up some miles after being off bikes for a few years.  Thankfully riding is still an option at least part of the winter here in Texas.

See you down the road!

Welcome   :chugbeer:  pacman1!!!
Personally, I've got a C10 & am not of much use to giving info on your NICE LOOKIN' C14. You'll soon be hearing from some guys & gals that will offer plenty of insight to whatever questions arise.

The people that have both seem to agree that if they didn't already have the tamer when they got the EVO flash, they wouldn't bother...  I have the tamer, but not the flash (yet!) and probably won't remove it when I get the flash, thinking that even if it doesn't do much good, it probably won't do any harm...

Welcome to the forum, pacman. While you're waiting on the ecu reflash check and adjust the throttle freeplay. May not need the TT.

My throttle was never snatchy/jerky but I got the throttle tamer anyway.  Couldn't tell the difference with or without it.  Make sure you're throttle cables are adjusted correctly.  I think it's about an 1/8th of free play.  I do have the flash and am well pleased with it, though.

Welcome, BTW!

Thanks for the welcome and all the tips!

I did take a few minutes to adjust the throttle cables this afternoon.  It made quite a big difference.  I need to ride a few more miles before I finalize the adjustment, but I think I got it pretty close.  I'll probably get the flash done first before I decide on the throttle tamer.

By the way, the bike came with a factory service manual and it calls for 2-3 mm of play on both cables.  I think I actually have it just a bit closer than that.  It responds RIGHT NOW with just the slightest tough.  I'll probably back it off just a bit after riding it a bit more.

Now I gotta find that cable luber....

I'm already there.  So glad I finally pulled the trigger.

It also appears we have very similar machines.  No ABS, no KTRC.  I actually wouldn't mind having either one, but the price was too good to pass up.

Welcome, stranger.

Thanks my friend. Seems the 14 is a common transition for ZRX riders. 😁
