Title: new air filter
Post by: aib3rtm on October 27, 2014, 03:32:51 AM
Ok I bought a k&n filter at http://4wheelonline.com (http://4wheelonline.com) because of their offer. Just curious here on how often do you clean your k&n? I’m not expecting tremendous improvement, though based on your experience did you notice any gain? Thanks!

I don't run a K&N on the bike but be sure to search both forums concerning fitment of the filter in the airbox.  I've read that it fits tighter and can lead to the airbox cracking at the seam.  I believe Steve in Florida has a Youtube vid to repair the airbox if it cracks and may offer some advise on prevention.

there will be zero power gain over a stock filter, but the k&n will help break the front / bottom seam of your airbox. All that, and your wallet is about 60.00 lighter... where's the downside ? :o  Steve

I guess you don't quite like them for our bike anymore?  They do fit pretty tight.

From my Dyno runs, the K&N produced a slightly richer A/F mixture and about a half to one hp less. I would have to hunt the charts down to give exact numbers. The K&N that I tried came from SiSF's bike, BTW, from back in his K&N days. As a bonus, the K&N will also let more dirt into your engine and possibly deform the airbox. All for only sixty odd dollars. What a deal. What's not to like?

I had a K&N once. Then I held it up to the light...

And after such a glowing report I'll add that I don't clean my K&N haven't since install around 04.... I remove once a year and blow out with compressed air and reapply a light coat of oil to it... I expected no improvement and thus I was not disappointed....

I've been using Emgo, same fit and build as stock. About 1/3rd the price.
