Forgot how light these are, really forces you to relax on it to avoid abrupt rider input!  8)

I went to the Kawasaki ticket to ride event in 2011 thinking I would replace my Ninja 650 with the Ninja 1000.  I test rode the 1000, the Concours, the Vaquero, and then I had one ride left so I decided to try the Versys.  The bike power wheelied in first gear and put a huge smile on my face.  It felt like you could jump curbs and just have a blast on it.  I knew from the test ride that I wanted a Concours for touring, but had to buy a Versys the next day.  26,000 miles of smiles on it.

  • It's only really cold if you fall down in it.
    • C-14 farkles you almost cannot ride without.

Had a little mishap with my bike (struck from behind) and there was some question that the bike would be wiped. That got the thought process going of course and so took a look around. Skipped the FJR (viable but not the equal of a C-14 IMO), skipped all the BMW's (not really looking to store German hardware while they redesign it over and over again- though the K1300GT was a really nice ride), skipped the Oldwing again- great motorcycle but it does not really do it for me and then got stuck on a VFR1200. Pretty motorcycle IMO and a good performer. Lighter than a C-14, little more power and overall excellent performance. Tempting.... very tempting! But they have a lot of drivetrain lash and that just cannot be fixed or addressed in any way I know so.... I ended up right back at the C-14 (OK, after a minor detour on a ZX).

But the '08 isn't scrap yet so it is going to get a work- over this fall / winter. So I guess my next bike is.... the same bike.

Brian

I am moving to Tennessee in less than 2 years to retire and if there is a BMW dealer within 50 miles I plan on buying a 1600 GTL. But if Honda ever up's the horse power of the Wing I might get a Wing instead. Also looking at maybe buying a Kawasaki KLX250S if the deal is really good.

There is an '03 ST 1100 on an auction that I often buy/sell some snowmobiles at coming up on Monday Sept 1. Unable to attend, but if I can get some pics and info from them, I will make a proxy bid. This time of year in northern Mn not many are looking to store a bike until spring.
You never know what can happen.
The V4 smoothness and sound has always been interesting.
This street bike thing is all new to me.
Snowmobiles-I have a bunch of those.

An emerald green 1999 BMW R1100RT. It's all I can afford, but it has the more upright seating position and a lower CG than the '06 C10, and I need both.

Picking it up this evening :-)

Funny how parting is always hard... I rode the Connie the 360 mile trip down to Illinois last night after doing valve clearances, carb balance and oil change this weekend. It's so beautifully smooth right after I do that work that I don't want to let her go. Economics and comfort ultimately get the upper hand, though. She's been good these past 33,000 miles...

Saw a new one turned into a Supermoto at the Honda dealer in Chattanooga.  Looked interesting.  You bringing it over to Europe to enjoy while you finish your tour?

Yep! Just left the states this week, should be in Europe by the time I get back from asscrackistan. Should have about a month to try it out on the mountain fire roads before the rain starts.

Short term - either a Voyager X!! or GL1200.  Long term - GL1800.

Mostly 'cuz I need the comfy passenger accomodations.

Don't know where you are located, but there was recently a very low mileage '02 Voyager in Huntsvile, AL craigslist.

Triumph Trophy! Rode one recently and loved it! Doesn't have the power the Connie has but everything else was great! I've ridden the K1600 and as nice as that was I still liked the feel and look of the Trophy better. But, I still have a lot of miles to put on my Connie so who knows what will be out there when that time comes.

I'm thinking the Ducati Scrambler might be my next bike.  The urban enduro.

Hoping they are able to build another track here in Calgary then I'll need a track bike.

I acquired a 2006 SV650N, I have always wanted one. Fun bike to ride......really fun, and lots of aftermarket goodies available. I still really like the Super Tenere, would very likely replace my V-Strom one of these days.

Another low mileage C10 but not for awhile.  I only have 89*** on my 1999 and 56*** on my 2000.  Each one is set up a little different than the other.  Both are a good ride and know how to work on the C10. At 73+ years old I don't have the reflexes to scrub my knees any more, so anything sportier is a waste for me.  Any thing heaver is no fun.

Will be a time until I'm ready, but, I think my next bike will be smaller/lighter but roadworthy...
Perhaps a 650 Versys.

Ride safe, Ted

Great choice, but the 650 V-Strom is even better. ;)
