C14 spotted at the police skills event in my town today
« Reply #20 on: May 14, 2011, 06:00:34 PM »
Grabbed a few pics from my cell phone:

Didn't see the officer who was riding this bike, he was competing (since there is a number on the front of the bike), but we didn't see it as we were not there for the whole event. But figured I should post a few pics anyway!

Perfect!  Thanks for doing the housework!   ;)

No problem! I was scouring the bikes to see if I would find a C14 and finally found this one. The ones competing when we were there were the old Harley's as well as the BMW opposed twins and Honda ST1300's.

I work near the Newport News guys but have not had a chance to see them yet.  They seem happy with the transition, their previous ride was the R1200 RTP.  I took delivery of mine earlier this spring.  I know it is not a C14 but I am a motorcyclist and figure you guys are as well.

Not really.  King George actually, but I come down that way quite a bit via 17.   Lately it's only been via cage.  I came through there last Wednesday and saw two C-14s.  One on 664 heading toward the Monitor/Merrimac and one heading towards Ft. Eustis (military rider).  Double dipper day.

Well Eustis is where I work!! If it was an '08 it was me as I am the only one on base there.   If you know ahead of time you're coming down give me a shout.  We just bought a restaurant on 17 in Yorktown last month.  www.mystinkys.com for the map.   I can get a great discount on lunch!

Good idea Jim (although you're breaking your own rules on 'fluff' postings ;) ),

Came across the PNW Police Bike Rodeo last weekend here in Portland OR, in the K-Mart parking lot at 122nd & NE Sandy.  They invited all "Association" members from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and British Columbia to compete.  These are all officers who have passed the certification tests to ride.

I only found 3 active duty C14s there, even though there were a hundred+ bikes.  There was also a demo C14 bike from Authority Sales (the guys who won the contract to supply the Police version C14).  It's the yellow one.  They  also had a brand new one in the trailer they were delivering to Milwaukee Oregon PD.

Most of the bikes were BMWs, as that's what Portland PD uses, and they were hosting the event.  Second would be the ST1300's, then the HDs.  Saw 3 HD's go down in the first 10 minutes I was there, and they were grinding everything, every turn.  The BC mounties really now how to push their HDs though, and they had a couple of really close calls.  Saw one smoke the front tire in a near miss.

Beaverton has been using ST1300s for awhile, so I was surprised to see they now have a C14.  The 2010 blue C14 is one of Gresham PDs.

Interesting side note, while chatting with the guy who developed the Police C14 conversion from Authority Sales, he told me an update on the 2011 models is the steering locks were changed to allow tighter turning radius.  Apparently it was done by Kawi in response to feedback from Police testing.

'Tis true, I confess, but I'm not unusually harsh with fluff postings as fluff postings go...  Great pics!  Thanks for sharing.

Check out the article in Cycle World magazine. July 2011 issue page 74 titled "Badge of Honor". Officer does a test ride on a police equipped C14 and compares to the BMW. The article ends with "Man, I want one" (C14 of course).

There is no comparison.  Not with the Honda, and not with the BMW.  It outshines both of them.

Anyone heard or have had experiences with linked braking immediately after a series of tight hard left right turns? I have heard the tight hard turns is confusing the anti-lock brake system causing the front brake anti-lock to fail.

Newest Cycle World magazine article titled "Badge of Honor" subtitled "Kawasaki builds a better police bike (dammit!).

Pretty favorable article on the Concours 14P (Police model).

We had no linked brake problems.  Only engine stalling.

I would agree that the C14 has the muscle, and although I prefer a wet clutch I have gotten comfortable with the R1200RTP.  I am trying to determine what other areas the C14 is superior in.  Wind protection, no.  Lighting, no.  Ground Clearance, no.  Fuel Mileage, no.  Ergos, no.  Saddlebag design, NO.

KIPASS........
