I've a 1999 ZG1000. The cam is shot and I have ordered a replacement.
Two of the followers are damaged and need to be replaced along with the new cam.
But I am unable to find online replacement cam followers.
Anyone have a zg1000 engine they are parting out? I could use 2 cam followers.

pretty sure it is the same as used on the Ninja 500 same year(2000) 12016-1118

as for cams, might want to contact SISF, at Shouldabeen Eng. he has stockers. and also torque cams, which you can send him your old cam, and he takes it on trade, and has it refurbed...

Steve sold me a good used follower for $25 when I got my torque cams from him. New ones are around $80.

Thanks guys, I think I found a couple on ebay. At least they are the correct part number. I hope they fit. they were 2 for $45. Used so I hope they are in better shape than mine.
Anyone know how to remove the cam followers? I've been looking on you tube and not found anything yet. All I see on the side of the head is a round looking bolt with a hole in it for a small torx. Seems to be the correct place but how do you remove it. The torx is so small I am sure it will strip out if trying to remove such a big bolt. Manual says to stick a bolt in the hole and pull it our but the picture in the manyal looks a bit different that what I see on my bike. Any ideas?

answered my own question. The hole in the end is for a hex wrench. Its just mine as been stripped out making it more round than hex. I managed to drive an allan further into the hole an broke it loose. Once that nut is out you can see a threaded hole to put a bolt into so you can pull the shaft out.

Rocker shaft and bad cam follower. This is from cyl 2. cyl 3 is nearly as bad. The cam lobe is worn flat on cyl 2 like it was not getting any oil. I need to check for that before reassembling

Looks like the #4 exhaust follower that I just changed.

Did you find a reason why? I am a beginner with the concorse and have not learned enough to tell how the cams are oiled yet?

I am not sure of the exact reason but some of the lobes were pitted. I got my 94' last July so I am not very familiar with it yet but it seems the same as with the Honda V4's. My Sabre has some pitting on the cam lobes but they are not wearing out. I think it is luck of the draw as far as inclusions and hardening goes. I just about have my Concours back together, waiting on the new clutch line to get here. I got another master cylinder yesterday so I can rebuild them while I wait. Make sure to pull the cover off of the left side of the engine and clean the metal paste remains of the cam and followers off of the pulse generator magnets.

I discovered a little oil hole in the center of follower that is supposed to squirt oil on the cam surface so I don't see how that could fail on just one lobe and not all 4. I checked all the oil holes in the rocker arm shaft and everything seems to be clear. Maybe you are right, maybe just luck.
When I get the cam followers, I will be good to put it all together and see how it runs. I still need to pull the carbs again. Last time I put gas in it there was gas leaking out of somewhere I haven't discovered yet.

Its been a long road of discovery. I got the new cam installed with two new followers. Started it and it was making horrible noise. Turned out the be the cam chain tensioner. Got that fixed and noticed the carbs were peeing on the garage floor. Pulled the carbs, cleaned them and adjusted the floats at least 5 times. Still peeing on the floor. Ended up putting new float needles and that fixed that. So now I was on the fast track of finishing up and while syncing the carbs on the bike I had a cylinder that I could not adjust. DAMN. What now. I was getting blowback on cylinder two on compression strike (and power stroke). Turns out that cam and followers were trashed for a reason. I pulled the head and sure enough a bent valve cylinder two. A lot of damned work for a used motorcycle.
New valve on order. I will spend the rest of the weekend cleaning the filth from inside the engine.

Been a rough week. Couldn't find info for removing the head and changing the valve so I just winged it.
I made a lot of mistakes, like thinking I could get the exhaust and oil feeder pipes off while the radiator was still in place. Turns out removing the radiator is the first thing you should do. It makes things so much easier.
Put the cams back in and forgot to install the oil pipes. Had to remove the cams and install the oil pipes then reinstall the cams. Realized the oil pipes can go in wrong way or right way. I got it wrong the first try. Lots of other little stupid things. But Now I am an expert. Fumbled my way through it and finished up tonight.

Those bolts were missing. So no I didn't.

I have always wondered just what they do! Can only be to pinch up a weak point and stop oil leaks: If the threads are good I would replace them, they were put there for a reason after all...M6x38 standard bolts.
