Hill Country Ride (Fredericksburg, Tx)
« on: April 02, 2014, 11:40:42 AM »
Did a three day Hill Country ride this past week. Had to get it in before the Texas heat kicked in!
Had three friends from Florida join me in Houston and then to Fredericksburg.

Rained a third of the way there last Thursday, but the weather was fantastic when we got there. Here we're taking a rain break in LaGrange.

Stopped by the Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood, Texas. If you're in the area, this is a MUST STOP!!!! I can say it was some of the best BBQ I've ever had! It's BYOB but we didn't worry about that since we were riding. It's cash only too. They do have an ATM inside.

Stayed at Settler's Crossing on the east side of Fredericksburg. Great place and very relaxing! We stayed in one of the cabins that was originally built in 1865.

Enchanted Rock north of town is a site to see! And the road to it is a wonderful motorcycle trip! It's a large granite batholith exposed by erosion.

Great breakfast at the Fredericksburg Airport Diner!

The bluebonnets are starting to come out. Not in full force yet but quite beautiful!

A nice sunset from the front porch our last night.

Learned about a great road from a local. It's called the Willow City Loop. It's a ranch road that's kept up fairly well. It's narrow, less than two lanes wide. Some gravel on the extreme sides to look out for, and many cattle guards in the road seperating the different ranches. There's a warning sign at the beginning that they are private ranches and not to get out/off your vehicle. There's a curve that opens up to a grand valley with pink and red shear granite faces. It'll take your breath away when you come around that corner! I heard that once the bluebonnets really kick in that that road can get busy. But it's a must ride if you're in the area!!!!

Are you going to come back and ride with us??

I may stop at the Salt Lick.

Ride safe, Ted
