Title: ZL1000
Post by: snarf on May 08, 2012, 02:16:36 PM
I'm young(er) than the average rider here.  I had never heard of the Kawasaki ZL1000.  Wow thats a sweet looking bike. A local Kawi dealer by my has a 1986 for sale.  I dont know if its $3500 sweet but it does look nice.  I bet the exhaust on that bike would look awesome on the C-10.
It has the same engine but the specs state that it is putting out  110hp.
I just wanted to show my age; you may now continue about your day

Yes, shaft drive, and yes fun. Conc-powered, geared lower, bigger carbs.
'87 was the only US model year, a few more for '88 overseas.

85 & 86 models were 900cc... 87 was 1000. Absolutely love the ZL900.

87 may have been the year they came out with the 1000.  That was primarily in the UK and Australia. The 1000 did not come to the US until 88

No, I have an '87 US model. There was no US '88 model.

ZL1000
The ZL1000 was an evolution of the ZL900, sporting a larger engine shared with the ZG1000 Concours and 34 mm carburetors. The styling of the ZL1000 was much more conservative than that of the 900, with a longer rear fender and a much larger fuel tank, this motorcycle was only available for 2 years, 1987 and 1988, but mostly sold in UK, Australia and the US in 1988. 100 HP models was sold in Germany, France and Sweden. The ZL1000 shares the same strong following as the ZL900.

So I guess that makes you around 60ish?

Bought a ZL900 new in 85. Damn nice bike, but very impractical. Boy was it fun! One of 2 bikes I wish I still had.
