200,000 miles a new milestone.

Like the title says I made it to the 200K mark. Bike runs like new & I still like as much as the day I bought it new. It has been a amazing bike.

Before anyone even ask, I don't & never have commuted. Every single mile has been either traveling or long day rides.

On to 250,000, maybe even 300,000!

Congratulations on the milestone!  Especially if you don’t commute on it. 

Over the 200,000 miles, what unusual maintenance or repairs have you done?  Anything to be aware of?

Nice to know they are going to last. I’m interested to know if you have had any issues over those 200k miles also.

Only one thing has happened that was a problem or could be called a repair. That was a few years ago & I had a ground block in the harness corrode. It caused the lights to do strange things. I was out of state, but it still got me back home. Once the problem was found I just cut the block out & soldered wires together, wire nutted & taped. No parts required.

Everything else has been normal maintenance/wear items. Most of which was done past the 100K mark & for peace of mind not because they were bad. Stem bearings, wheel bearings, radiator hoses, front rotors, lower fork tubes & 2 sets of plugs. Front brake rotors were below spec. Lower fork tubes had the finish worn off down to whatever is under the chrome, never did leak though.

I fully expect "Black Bear" to run over 300,000 miles . Here is a low stressed(most of the time)1352 cc motor with 5 qts. of 'new technology' oil and a radiator. The first 80,000 was the most reliable of any vehicle (including cars) I have ever owned.The only thing I may do is get an APE to quiet the timing chain, which embarrasses me when starting in the company of lesser FJR's, etc. My 1974 Z-1 still boogies after all these years and had a nut case 20 year old pilot to put up with.
