my oil drain plug is seeping. I have the washer on it as usual. have to torque the crap out of it to get it to stop. I have a spare motor and wonder if it's the pan and not the plug. any hidden mysteries to changing the oil pan? I've not done it before, so not sure what is under the covers.

Not difficult once you get the headers out of the way.
Clean EVERYTHING thoroughly before reassembly.
Be sure to use a new gasket.
Lots of bolts, pay attention to what goes where
and don’t lose any crush washers.

thanks! headers are already off. I've got a donor motor to take one off of. I'll start with removal there and be sure I don't run into problems. I think I'll get the power washer out first and be sure the block is nice and clean.

Wrap some Teflon tape around your plug {below the washer} and screw it in.
As you install the plug, the tape will be pushed up into the ID of the washer.
No more leak.
Do NOT torque the heck out of it. That is a sure way to strip the aluminum threads.
If the aluminum threads are poor already, Oversized plugs can be bought at auto supplies in 1/4 mm steps.
Just take your plug to a shop and match.
Ride safe, Ted

Have you tried using a thin rubber type seal washer under the copper washer?

The oil pan is not a simple bolt on and we're done deal.
There are some things that need to be lined up properly between the crankcase and the oil pan upon installation.

I'm recalling the involved parts from memory and looking at the fiche's.
There MAY also be an external oil line that connects to the Oil pan from the crankcase too - but I don't recall exactly right now. Check to be sure.
Study where these parts are on dis-assembly and make sure they are in place when the new oil pan goes on.

thanks all for your input. I'll try something on the bolt to seal it up first. in the mean time, I may dive into removal from the spare motor and see just how much do-do I get into.
