Post up some pics of your bike at a great diner, dive, or drive-in (http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j180/stevewfl/bigthumb.gif)
Perhaps cue us where the place is, and if the food was decent or maybe a warning not to stop there! Service/wait-staff and price details welcome as well
(phone pics, film scans, and black and white pics welcome!)
-
Lets kick this off, I arrived in Gilbert AZ at around 3:30 AM. Got a pic at this place. It was closed at that hour so not details, but I'll be back out west before too long and bump this thread with some feedback on the joint :D

Rural SC, can't recall the name of the town. They still have an old timey Soda Fountain operational!

It's a poor picture I know, it doesn't show the restaurant. But this is in front of El Cafecito in Grants NM. Everyone know that NM chili is the best and this place has great dishes with red or green. This is also right on the old Route 66.
BTW: you see a LOT of Valkyries in my pics because I have 2 brothers and a son that own them. So I quite often ride my C14 with 3 Valkyries. The black one used to be mine.

Once again this could also fall under the illegally parked catagory ;D

Hanna Cafe. Hanna, UT. http://goo.gl/maps/GXTy1 (http://goo.gl/maps/GXTy1)
Good food and nice folks, the main attraction is the road leading in, Wolf Creek, smooth, fast and fun. The have rooms for rent upstairs and a bar next door.

Shooting Star Cafe. Huntsville, UT http://goo.gl/maps/mkB9K (http://goo.gl/maps/mkB9K)
Great burgers and nice folks, oldest bar in Utah and close to my favorite road in northern Utah, UT-39, Monte Cristo.

Main St. Diner. Buffalo, WY.
Had a very good breakfast, sat drinking coffee and talking to the owner/cook for probably an hour that morning on a road trip, then rode 16 through Bighorn National Forest.

A small Cantina in Hayfork, Northern Cakifornia on Route 3.

^^^^nice, and sweet beemers, the F800GS is on my short list as my next bike :D

Dang. I've got many photos of unique restaurants, but none with the Connie. Going on a lunch run tomorrow, but not on the Connie. Frustrating belonging to a motorcycle specific forum when you have more than one bike.

As a former Phoenician, you can't go wrong at Joe's, unless you pick the wrong time of day! The line will be out the door! Friday, Saturday nites @ peak time. Kinda cafe-style. While in line you will have time to decide. If it's your birthday you get a free dessert. Lemon cake, brownie, used to anyway.
FWIW, Joe has 3 restaurants in the PHX area, each with a different idea. Joe's BB-Q in Gilbert. Southwest corner from Joe's on Gilbert Rd. is (was? I've been gone for 8 months now) Liberty Market. Same walk-up ordering style but different cuisine.
And then there is Joe's Farm Grill. Grow the veggies and herbs and such on land behind the establishment!
Google is your friend to determine hours of operation. :-)

If you're in a bb-q tasting mood, Rudy's Market, out of Tejas (?) opened a location in Chandler, AZ just east of I-10!
So, "old pics" of our ZG's in front of restaraunts are OK?
It's not, like, a worldwide game of "Tag!" is it?
I could handle Tag in AZ but globally could be a challenge! :D

Pikes Peak Brewing also in Monument, CO complete with "Beverage Response Vehicle". Good micro brew beer, not so good food. They have special small batch brews by invitation only once in awhile. The best was a bourbon barrel stout that was out of this world.

Ok no bike in the pic, its safely parked at a motel a few blocks away. But I wanted to share my favorite motorcycling eating (and drinking) destination. The is Mahogany Ridge Brewery in downtown Steamboat Springs, CO. Excellent beer and amazing food. Plenty of motels stumbling distance.

Sadly my pic may be the last C14 pic. I have a deal in the works for the KTM350EXC-F I want. Almost an even deal in Port Angeles, WA. There is a killer burger joint along the way, I may get a before and after, a wake of sorts. Something just seems wrong giving up a tad over 1000 CCs :o And over 100 ponies :-\ :-\ :'( :'( :'( :'(

I figure I'll look long enough to need glasses 8) It sickens me to see the 14 sitting unused, it deserves to be ridden. Work requires DS and dirt type bikes and I figure the 350 covers both. Still havent pulled the trigger but it is getting closer.
My biggest question is which tires do I run?

The rubber ones....

Me too. I've got thousands of pics but typically didn't take one that includes the bike and the restaurant at the same time. I missed an opportunity this weekend at the New York Deli in Denver. Fantastic deli, bike parked right outside but just forgot to snap a pic.

So many miles traveled, places visited, things seen....
Yet only 3 pictures of my Concours in front of a restaurant. ???
Here is my first, it's from Nov. 2011.

No I have not! out of the 15 people who RTE to Hot Rods only one person ordered it. I wouldn't eat it if you paid me
Well I guess I would if it was for enough $$ everyone has their price..

I'm thinking about locking this thread from further discussion. It's making me constantly hungry...

I'll have to give it a try next time I'm in Austin visiting my brother. But I didn't know Burton or anywhere east of Austin was considered hill country.

Yeah, true Hill Country is west of here. Burton is one of the stops we make on the way back from riding central Texas (heading back to Houston). You do start to get the topography created by the limestone just east and north of here. The bluebonnets are the thing to really see out this way in the Spring!

Sounds good! Will probably try to drum up some business reason to be in Austin in April. Skip the TSA and the whole airline madness and ride the C14.

Rhino, another good RTE in this area is the Southern Flyer Diner at the Brenham Municipal Airport. 50's style diner where all the waitresses wear the whole poodle skirt outfits! Good food too!!!!!!

Those Burton pics are driving me crazy. I'd so love to rock my camera gear and studio lighting on a model and a bike with those scenes I'm seeing

South of Burton (south of I-10), is Halletsville... great little BBQ spot there called Novasad's. 8)

The last 2 times I was riding the hill country at about 3:00pm I found myself in Fredericksburg and the Altdorf Biergarten. A tall weissbier and some schnitzel on a hot afternoon sitting in the shade is life. 8)
Next time a pic with the C14.

Don't know how we got away from this place without getting a good bike picture! Does the very top of my windshield count?
The Loveless Cafe is at the very end of the Natchez Trace, southwest of Nashville. By far one of my favorite eating spots of any bike trip I've done!
Great roads around that area too. Only complaint about the Trace is the speed limit. The max speed limit is 50mph, but also has a long stretch that is only 40! And don't think of exceeding that because it's patrolled I swear every few miles!! They'll stop you for just a few over the limit.

I think I've only done 120 from Cody to Thermopolis once. My brother lives off of 30 west of Basin so I usually take 739 out of Thermopolis instead of 120. 120 looks interesting on the map and I'll have to check it out next time I'm up that way.

It was late afternoon so we had appetizers.
Fried gator tail bites, of course. Sometimes they can be chewy, these were not, and the batter didn't overpower the meat. Nice!
I'm a fool for nachos! :-\
Theirs features pulled pork, roasted corn, tomatoes, jalapenos not from a jar, bb-q sauce (not a lot), cheese, sour cream and guacamole on the side. Probably forgot something. Good chips!? Yummers!
Think I finally found my go-to place! ;D
There is also a bar and patio area under the guise of Springhouse Tavern attached. Live music on the patio.
Forgot to ask where the micro-brews came from. ::) No sign of a brewery on site...on this visit. :)

Staying on burgers. ;D
Good lord, this place rocks hand-pattied craziness!
The Ridiculous Burger is just that! Grilled cheese for buns, two patties is "regular", cheese again on the patties, bacon, 1 fried egg on top, lettuce, tomato, and a house-mixed peppery mayo. :o
You will finish it 'cause it's that good! If it's lunch you may not need dinner. ;)
About 10 bucks for that burger with fries and drink.

I don't have leathers so there is no chance of me getting out there and showing off how slow a C-14 can be! :-)
Parade laps at Miller in UT during WSBK are my only track time :-[
Can anyone with a big camera show up to practice photography? ::). ;D

I am not really sure how to compare a high dollar seafood place to a really cheap burger joint. Dixie Crossroads is a great place, but the prices have gone thru the roof in the last several years. I think the new ownership has driven away a lot of the old customers.

Branford, FL on US129. No, 129 here is not as much fun as the stretch that carries you from NC toTN, or vice versa. ::)
Had a tasty bb-q sammich, fries and sweet tea for, like, seven bucks and change + tip.
Friendly staff, lots of home-cookin' items on the menu!
One thing I'm coming to grips with here is the style of bb-q sammich. In this region it's sliced. ??? I like my pork pulled...errr, prefer a pulled pork sammich. ;D

For two it was, like $23 with tip.
BB-Q sandwich available sliced or shredded. Shredded, please!!
After trying out the various bottles of sauce on the table with a few fries I chose the sauce that leaned towards the yellow color.
Delicious!!
Wife had the catfish fingers.

Nice. I went through that area last summer. Stayed overnight in Stanley at a place that had a huge deck right on the river. Great place to kick back and drink a few Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy's after a long ride.

Can't imagine attempting to ride the artic ice on a sport bike. Even a highly modified one pulling a trailer with tiny wheels.

car tire! 8)

If your going to pull a camper behind your bike, why not a car tire? Not like your going to be dragging a knee in the curves.

That's very true Rhino! Plus look at the tires on that trailer! My wheel barrow has a larger tire than that thing does!

I wouldn't want to pull that thing over 50 with wheels so small. I wonder how often he has to replace the wheel bearings on that thing.

Those are studded ice tires. The guy is from Finland and was attempting to ride the artic ice and then decided to travel to bike gatherings to promote his video of his adventures.

The food isn't really anything to write home about but one can dine alfresco down by the water's edge and watch the fish and water birds come and go.

Here is the best Pizza I've ever eaten and it is a great ride from my home. It is called the Blue Goose and all they sell is Pizza and Ice Cream! A real dieters hell but a nice place to stop at on 24 Valley Road outside of Viola Wi. If you are in the area and want an escort I'm game :grouphug:

Yes sir she rides it but we were in TN/West NC Mountains last weekend so hers didn't get ridden, I'll be in Charleston for Mother's Day this weekend and a business trip in SC Tues. Leaving as soon as my house sitter arrives.
So I didn;t want her bike to have not been run for 3 weeks :D

Yep. Those carb bikes don't like to sit. That is for sure. I put a little seafoam in the fuel every few tanks to help keep varnish from building up.

Not all of us live in those sunshine year round states :(. Rainy season is ON here in Oregon, I only ride on the 0% chance of rain days for the next bunch of Sunday's. Most of us worry about cages on dry pavement, I completely avoid them in the wet months.
I'm sure you will see me here again before winters over though. Best burgers on the West coast.

Back when I was 8 or 9 years old my family moved down to Naples Florida. I was snorkeling at the beach there a couple days after moving down. I found some old pilings with tires around them, half buried in the sand. Inside the tires were a bunch of stone crabs. I got them out and we took 8 of em home That was the first time I ever had crab. Oh man was that good! :P

I had one, the only new bike I've ever owned, and probably the best. Loved everything about that bike and rode the crap out of it.
PS. The lines of the tail section look really good with the Ninjer sticker removed, IMO.

I've been to the highest point in Florida and it is 345 feet above sea level. To be called a mountain the peak must be 1000 feet above the surrounding valley. I used to live in Florida and now live where there are mountains. But, I can see how someone who never left Florida might consider some of those hills mountains. But I say, Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill! LOL!

That would be my assumption as both Canberra (great aircraft by the way) and Melbourne are both in Australia. Interestingly enough, my burned out brane saw 'Long Track Panty' instead of the real name.

While I'm at it, why do all the rides and events seemingly happen on Saturday only? I'm in :censored: retail and NOTHING happens on :censored: Sunday. Stupid :censored: small-town north FL :censored:
There, that feels better. :D
See, if you were a COG member we'd "tailor" a sunday ride! Just joking. Many of us Coggers are on both sites, some only that one, some only this one its all good. Anyway, if you PM SteveJ here and request a sunday gig mention I'm game for it too. And you don;t have to be a COG member to join the rides
-
I'm game for any weekend ride, Saturday or Sunday. Picked up the new connie last night and I can't get this :censored: eatin grin off my face. I want to ride!!

ALS Landing is on ruby street in Tavares. Right behind the seaplane/boat dock. There are a couple nice bars/restaurants on that little street.

Steve, are you familiar wth a place near Tavares called Sinbad's? A co-worker keeps telling me that this place has a great burger. On another note, I'll be moving up that way in a few months. My house should be completed late June'ish. I am in Orlando, near UCF now, but the move is going to put me in the northern Apopka area.

I have heard of the place but never been there myself. I have also heard they have some amazing chicken wings.

Ate at a great cafe, Joe's Place, in Fayetteville yesterday, but was on the RT. Had to do a shakedown ride after replacing QD's on the fuel lines. Anyone in SE or Central TX ever have a chance to go there, it's on the square on Hiway 159. Worth the trip. Get the grilled 12oz pork chop...I'll take the 14 next time.

Didn't realize you were living in Austin. That is the thing about the site is different than others. Just the nation is shown, and any of us can be located anywhere.
Take Hiway 159 out of the La Grange area, towards Bellville, and you will ride right to the Fayetteville square. There is another cafe on the square, too, but the food is not as good as Joe's.
WOW, gumby, that was kinda harsh. I'll make sure never to ask with out googling first. ;D

Went back to Fayetteville today to get a pic and more great food. I do 1000-1100 miles days on my airhawk R. but No airhawk when railing! I slide off the seat with knee out and chest and face towards the mirror on the same side when railing. I even spray silicone on my seat if I'm getting that serious on the street or track.

She is a thing of beauty. Since I was laid off a month ago, I have ridden a few times, but not spent any money at any eating establishments. Soon as I get re-employed, I am going to find a great chicken fried steak and will get a pic of that establishment. Did I mention, that she is beautiful? Yes I see the ring, but that doesn't change her beauty. She reminds me of a movie/tv actress, maybe Lee Meriwether, or possibly another... tp

Here's Connie at a Rib Country in north Georgia. I think there 4 or 5 of these, so I guess that's not a chain. Pretty good BBQ, but the parking lot is not exactly kick-stand friendly...

Wow. I forgot about this thread. So, do you notice a difference riding with no bags vs empty bags on the bike? I have never had mine off during a ride. Always have something to carry.
-
I have used mine both ways and really outside of slipping through cars easier (I am in Cali where we can lane share) and not having something to kick getting on and off I have noticed no difference in riding. Now I have a 47 Liter top case and I do notice a difference in wind push with that box mounted.
-
Not for me...Bagless is great. I drop the bags and lost the potatoe launcher and she reminds me more of my previous sport bikes. Prob more in my head than anything....but whatever it takes.

I would ride bag less. I think the C14 looks better without the bags. (Do these bags make my A$$ look fat? Yes!) But now I have the rear protection bars and it seems I'm always carrying something. Oh well.

I am of the opposite opinion. I think the bike was designed with the bags, and without it looks like a dated early '90s bike with a fat rear. ;)

Guess you don't ride fast enough. Ha ha. Bags create a lot of drag; simple physics. And affect stability at higher speeds, especially while cornering (sweepers). There's a reason manual says not to exceed 80 mph with the bags and/or passenger on ;). Anyway, I'm in the bagless camp too. Bought the bike with bags for longer trips. But for overnighters, my seatbag is enough. So I hardly ever use them. Wish Kawasaki had body-color plates to go over the bag mounts, like Yamaha (FJR1300) does. But they don't look horrible. The bags are HUGE, and both of them, which is quite nice when space is needed. But the bike looks and feels huge with them too. A matter of personal preference how it looks though.
-
Back in the early days of this bike, Kawasaki made statements to the effect that the bag shape was engineered to provide down force at high speeds...

And that means LIFT in the front. Not good ;). No bike handles better with bags than without; otherwise racing bikes would have them ;D. But I think Kawasaki probably has the best design. When I brought the bike home at up to 90 mph, didn't feel the negative effects of the bags I have felt on every other bike with bags I've owned. Don't know about the sweepers though. And the extra drag will always be there, meaning higher fuel consumption at the very least. But they're a compromise we sport-tourers are willing to make. Take care.
-
I've never done high speed without the bags. But whatever they did, they did it right. This bike feels rock solid at 130+.

I usually have lots of stuff to take. Plus I am lazy. Plus the bike looks great with the bags and rear McE bars... but the McE bars look hideous without the bags.

I agree about the bags being part of the bike. Been over 135, and like previously stated, rock steady (with top case full, too). Working the next three days, but maybe this week or next will be able to get in a ride and stop at an out of the way eatery.
FWIW, wasn't sure I was ever going to be employed again, but the new sales position looks like fun, and challenging, too.
Steve, that is a wonderful pic, congrats..... tp

The manual says not to exceed 80mph with the bags or a passenger on the bike? I must have missed that section! :)
I'm thinking that's only for the inferior Gen2 bikes... ;)

"Overloading the motorcycle with cargo and/or passengers, and/or not balancing the weight of items carried in each saddlebag may cause adverse handling, loss of control and an accident resulting in serious injury or death. Do not carry loads of more than 10 kg (22 lb) in each saddlebag. Distribute the load equally on both sides of the motorcycle to minimize imbalance. Do not exceed the total payload limit of 228 kg (503 lb), including rider, passenger, baggage, and accessories. Do not exceed the vehicle speed of 130 km/h (80 mph) when carrying a passenger and/or cargo. Also reduce speed according to road or weather condition, etc. Failure to adjust the speed to compensate for added weight and other conditions may result in a loss of control and subsequent accident."
Of course, it is silly- but I bet all motorcycles have similar types of warnings in their manuals. Probably just liability stuff.
-

I agree about the liability angle. Does it state if riding solo, you can ride WFO as much as you like? If not, why make a motorcycle that can easily travel over 150 MPH? So often corporate double speak is really way out there... tp

And change the iridium spark plugs every 7500 miles. I once had a gps that said "not to be used for primary navigation". Lawyers protecting people from lawyers and their own stupidity. What can you do?

NO, I'm at the restaurant on the mountain in the background. Thats a faraway pic, guess its hard to see. I went to that mountain right after I left this canyon near Moab. You should've been there ;D

I have been riding every weekend lately to many restaurants but all of them I've already posted here. I'm going to have to make a point of finding something new this weekend or maybe the next.

HA! I could barely get to work today (walking) with the 5" of snow and the layer of ice on top of that :( More snow coming tonight. And tomorrow night it is going to be 7F and then 9F the next night. This is Virginia Beach???

Just checked my work schedule against the weather channel forecast. Seems that every day I'm off, heavy rains are predicted for the next two weeks. No rain on the days I work. Just figures for me, for that to happen... tp

Hey Steve, I finally made it to Steamboat Bill's. I got a hotel room in Lake Charles so I could feast and relax. Unfortunately, I was in my roadster instead of on the bike. Too much freezing rain about, and I had a work timetable to meet.

I brought the food back to the room because I normally eat like a bird and knew I wouldn't be able to move after eating all this. The red wine helped get it all down. ;)
Stuffed Shrimp
Catfish
Stuffed Crab
Medium Shrimp
French Fries
Cole Slaw
Louisiana Roll
The best I have ever had:
Crawfish Etouffeé
This is the first time I tried the below menu items. AMAZING!
Boudin Balls
Shrimp Pistolette

The Mexican Restaurant in Leaky is really good, too. Decent prices and atmosphere. Hope to visit the Sisters again this year.

Mexican Restaurant in Leaky name, please. :)
Will be in TX for MotoGP, as well as a trip on the Sisters, and intend to partake in the 3 Texas food groups as often as I can. ;)
My understanding is the food groups are as follows. :D
BB-Q
Tex-Mex
Whataburger
Camping at Bastrop.
Any guidance would certainly be appreciated!! ;D 8)

Mama Chole Mexican Restaurant, on US 83 just north of 337 intersection.
Won't dare discuss BBQ, worse than an oil thread. Try several places , especially in some smaller towns. Decide for yourself.
On the eighth day, God, after resting, created Whataburger, just for Texans. Been eating their burgers since the 60's. So franchised out today, that while all are good, some location's food just tastes better, juicier meats, crisper fries, etc.
Tons of great and eclectic food places in Austin. Many have been on Diners Drive-ins and Dives on Food Network. Search their site for those locations.
Never camped at Bastrop, but I would bet Google could give you lots of info. How did we live before Google? tp

Yeah, I'm sure "best bb-q joint" could turn into an oil thread or a stove pipe key discussion..... ;D
I will be keping my eyes peeled for non-chain along the way through TX and LA!
And I have confirmation from a http://twtex.com/ (http://twtex.com/) friend I used to ride with in AZ that Bastrop SP is nice. 8)
Shot in the dark on the LA camping. Reads nice on the 'net. State park so should be casual. :)
stevewfl, there shall be pics! Trying to decide what glass to take. ;)

Been a while since any of us has gone to a non chain eatery. Today was my day off and bug guy at the house day, so I went riding around with the only destination was lunch at this place. Tony's Family Restaurant, in Sealy, TX. Just good country meals, breakfast to dinner. If you are ever on I10 going to or from Houston, stop in Sealy and grab a bite.
My bike couldn't be in the picture with the sign, as you can see why. Looks like you can get your hair styled while there, too.. ;D

Not even if you laid down on your back by the bike....I'm thinking you didn't try hard enough... :)

Lunch crowd. The lot was packed, and I look silly enough without trying. The LEO's I sat by would have probably hauled me off had I tried that. Perhaps next time.... ;D ;D :banana The banana is in honor of Jim, who seems to love it.

Sounds as if you liked it. Hate to recommend a place if it wasn't good for you. Sisters are fun, in that you have to remain aware, but not be fretting the next curve, to enjoy. Hope you did enjoy the ride...
Wish I still had the XR1200. That would be just about the perfect mount for the Sisters. tomp

Then there was this in Bastrop, TX across the highway from the park entrance.
Delicious breakfast tacos!
I hate to stop so these are the only results following a 2,000+ mile trip. ::)

Sadly, I missed Luckenbach while in TX for MotoGP. :(
My mission that day was http://tourofhonor.com/ (http://tourofhonor.com/) sites and the Three Sisters. ;)
I was in Fredericksburg, saw the "loop" road signs and wondered....
At the end of the 500+ mile day, back at the campsite, I learned I was sooo close and it wasn't that far off my route. :censored:
Sure would like a pic in front of that "post office." :D
Went through La Grange, didn't see the little shack outside of town.

I'm guilty of crappy pics in this thread too, but its about about the places more than the quality of jpegs. I have my phone with me all the time, rarely do I have my D800, lenses, lighting, etc on my bike :D

Some phones have decent cameras, some crappy. Mine is rather crappy, and the new phone coming soon, is even crappier. To me, it's about the ride more than the actual pic. Been some great comments about the destinations, too. Not sure it would be worth the 2K trip to do Chinese in Lake City, though. ;D

I had to settle for frozen while there, and canned to bring home when I was there the end of May.

Interesting town... Found homes for sale from $26K to $300K+++. Off I10, just a 1000 miles from my home, also off I10. did you eat there or just take the pic? Read good and bad about the food served. Simply wondering if the food is worth a 2K ride, or is the best feature the T-shirt???? tp :P :P ;D
I just stumbled across this thread seein's how I have a C-10.

While you are enjoying your meal at The Yearling Restaurant be sure to check out Willie Green. Willie has been called "The Real Deal" by slide guitar great John Hammond. Willie delivers authentic down home blues at The Yearling daily. You can also buy a copy of one of Willie's CDs or shirts while your there if you like and get it signed. The Yearling also has other assorted guest artists regularly for you to enjoy while you are dining.
Text and pics copied from the Yearling website.
We haven't had an RTE there for a few years, it's past time.
Other comments. Sinbad's wings do rock, winner of the Orlando Sentinel editor's choice Foodie award for wings this year. Their coconut shrimp doesn't suck, either. Bring cash, they do not do plastique
Anyone looking for O' Keefe's in Eustis should shift their focus to Tavares. It's near the seaplane base, downtown. Excellent beer selection, BTW.
And Stevewfl (aka#9334), we have had an RTE at the Lake Harris Hideaway. It was like 40 degrees out, a bit of a cold front. Margie and I do hit it often, living about 1.5 miles away on an honest to goodness twisty road through the orchards. Pulled up to the dock in the neighbor's boat a coupla weeks ago.

Had lunch here today. Owner's name would suggest Tex-Mex, but they make good pizza. Set up like CiCi's, with salads, pastas, pizza, and desserts, but better. No beer, just soft drinks and tea. Ever in Brookshire on I10 west of Houston, stop in and have a meal.

Stayed at the Motel as well. I almost had the place to myself. They guy riding the BMW almost bailed out when he seen that there wasnt A/C, but he stayed. It would have been a little creepy being there completely alone at night.

The road has to be more fun than the ferry. Besides, with my middle ear mess, I get seasick, watching pirate moves, so the road would be "it" for me...

Moby Dick's on the Santa Barbara Pier. Food is just "okay" but the area is a pretty amazing experience! The ride getting there is great...around Lake Casitias and over Hwy 150 then the 101 North to Santa Barbara. The ride home was at night along the coast with the full moon reflecting off the water and temps around 70 degrees...perfect!

Hey, a friendly suggestion: never leave your helmet on a seat, tank, etc. I learned the hard way that even on a perfectly calm day, a wind gust can sneak up on you, and knock the sucker down >:(; $700 down the drain. Now it goes to the ground, or on top of a fuel pump if protected from falling. Better a little dirty than ruined ::).

Took a Friday morning ride up over Hwy 33 (Maricopa Hwy), to the 166, to Tepusquet Rd, to Foxen Cyn/Zaca Station Rd past the "Fess Parker Winery and the "Firestone Winery", to the 154 and over to Solvang for some really good Waffles at "The Belgian Cafe".
Guys and girls, you want to see some great roads to ride go to Google Maps and follow Hwy 33 (Maricopa Hwy) out of Meiners Oaks and then again find and follow Tepusquet Rd and then to Foxen Cyn to the 154 ... awesome roads to ride! Think pine trees, beautiful rock formations, deer and more twisties than you could ever hope for ... especially Tepusquet Rd, that one is so much fun to ride! Here are some pics;
Looking back at Hwy 33 before dropping into the cold part of the ride. Temperatures after these first pics on Hwy 33 dipped down to 18 degrees!

Did this on Sunday. Texas Burger in Needville, TX. I drop by there at least twice a month to enjoy their food.
If you live SW of Houston, Texas Burger has great food... The Chicken Fried Steak dinner is great too, as well as the double Cheeseburger I had.

Yeah those buddies of mine and their ADV bikes- Loads of fun on either the Tiger or Versys. :o Probably my next purchase, which I think that's why we saw ZG go with a KTM SA 1290 and leave us Connie buds in the dust.
BTW, that Antelope cafe site is for sale! It would be a great spot for us MC riders to take a break, fill up, etc. :)

Dally's Down Under Saloon. 5 miles or so west of Dripping Springs TX off 290 at 3232. Nice biker bar. Great brisket tacos. And big motorcycle only parking area.

Alamo Springs Cafe in Grapetown TX. About 10 miles from the famous Luckenbach TX. Great area to ride. World class burgers. Honor system for all drinks including beer. You just take what you want from the case and tell the cashier when you pay the bill.

I must admit, this is one of my favorite threads. Many trip inspiring pics posted here.
Luckenbach is on my list of places to visit. I need a pic of my bike in front of the post office.

The only place I ever had a jacket stolen was at a bar in CA :-[

Cumberland Gap, TN. Population 494. About as sleepy a little town as I've ever seen.
This was parked a block from the restaurant.

Love the rat.

I would walk right past a row of $100k customs to check out that bike.

Always leave my helmet and jacket on the bike. But I have to admit I have never ridden in So Cal.

I like it! I wonder how much work it is to get just the right patina.

Nope, you haven't because you'd go home with nothing if you did that here and then you'd never do it again ;)!
-
It's not just SoCal. Any major metropolitan area is much the same. As a matter of fact, small towns everywhere have their fair share of dirtbags as well.
-
I heard if you leave your bike on the street at night in bad parts of New Orleans your sparkplugs will be snapped off, if they are accessible. The crackheads use the ceramic to make crack pipes. :o

Is that seat one of those Russell Day-Longs?

Since y'all like it here's a closeup:
This is a great piece...Notice the femur shift lever...and the entirely useless passenger peg made from a con rod. Little jewels all over this bike. It's a winner! :finger_fing11:

Lets kick this off, I arrived in Gilbert AZ at around 3:30 AM. Got a pic at this place. It was closed at that hour so not details, but I'll be back out west before too long and bump this thread with some feedback on the joint :D
(http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j180/stevewfl/X%20country%20trippin/20110713-DSC_1793.jpg)
I've been to this place a few times. While the decor and almost picnic table looking digs won't win any awards, the food is good. And it is real BBQ, not fake. Like the sign says.

Not my Connie but my DR at Jester King Brewery, Dripping Springs, TX. Huge out door seating area shared with Farmhouse Pizza Co. Massive beer selection including about 10 of their own craft beers. They do a lot of sour beers which I'm not a big fan of but they have some outstanding non sour beers. I didn't try the pizza but judging by all the people standing in line to get one, I'm assuming it's pretty good.

Now if it would just warm up enough so I could get it out and then change the tires I could maybe play this game too. ;D

Come to MI and you can freeze at night time if your too hot.
Daytime highs are just now breaking 50° so a few more weeks and it will be riding season with any luck
as it's been known to go backwards and get cooler before Summertime temps stay up.

Nice! I really want to get down to Big Bend. Have ridden right by it several times now but never had the time to go into the park. The problem is that TX is so big that "right by it" means only a couple of 100 miles and every time it was summer and 100+ degrees. Just going to have to make time to get there in the spring or fall.

It's a very different event. Located on the Strand and the Seawall. Averages around a half million attendees. Motorcycles are EVERYWHERE. LOTS of pirates and 1%'s too, all hanging together. If you enjoy crowd watching, there is a bit of everything to see. More vendors at the LSR, should you be searching for something specific. Over all, a lot of fun and relatively trouble free. The LSR is totally free, unless you use paid parking areas, too. No one cares what you are riding, as long as it has two or three wheels. Folks do drive in too, just not a lot of auto parking available during the event. I'm taking the C14, not the Harley.
FWIW, been to around a half dozen ROT's, but it's just too hot to be enjoyable for me anymore. All my riding friends stopped going too.

Your talking me into it! I'll have to see if I can find a place to stay Saturday night. Only 234 miles from my home. Less than 300 even if I take back roads. Leave O'Dark Thirty and be there by mid morning on Saturday. 8)
