Cal Sci Windscreens Group Buy
« on: May 11, 2011, 01:47:03 PM »
FIRSTIES!

I know our priorites need to shift until we get this forum back on it's feet, but is there any way we can resurrect the Cal Sci group buy? (Was ConraD leading that charge?)

On my mind only because Mark at CalSci was posting an end date of May 20th for the group buys.

And for those keeping track, Mark added the larger clear screens to the buy. (YAY! Christmas in May!)

Thanks for the reminder ConraD.

Mark must have just added the rest of his shields to the buy because when I posted the link they weren't included.

Ok guys, $20 off all Cal Sci shields, get em while they're hot. Click the link above, prices good till 5/20.

You're welcome.

Mine came yesterday but I didn't install it yet. I want to clean up the edges a bit first. The shield looks great, cept for the rough edges. I'm a bit anal...

I'm thinking about upgrading to a shield that provides more protection on the sides or width in the space air is deflected around.  I would appreciate some feedback stock (I have a 2011) compared to Cal Sci.

I also like a shield with a curved lip like the stock C10 shields.  At the correct height it allows looking over it and deflects the bugs and other debris over head.

Cal Sci is offering 4 different shields with a $20 discount, so I'm not sure which one you want to compare. I'll be installing my shorty this weekend so that's all the help I can give you. If I remember when I get the stocker off, I'll overlay the two so you can get some idea how those two compare.

The stock one on my 2011 has the height I desire, and i'm interested in a shield that either flares outward at the sides directing air in a wider path, of a shield that is wider.

It sounds like to me that you're wanting the med from Cal Sci. Compared to the stock shield on the '10, the med is 1" taller and 2" wider. See this link for more info and pics.

You may want to check out the V stream; it flairs out a little and is quite wider at the top. I held one up to my bike earlier this year.

I was also thinking from the measurements that the "medium" Cal Sci would be the choice.

I'll have to measure the thickness of stock, as i'm thinking I would prefer at LEAST the same thickness.  I've noticed some flex in the stock one at around 80 mph or so, and thinner material may flex more easily?

Anyone have a medium? :feedback: I was going to get the medium but am having second thoughts and may get the large. Just sayin, if I spend the buck there should be a noticable difference, right?

The Shorty is 1mm thinner then the stock shield. I put a couple extra fiber washers under the middle mounting screws on both sides to take up the slack. It fits nice and snug now and looks great with my Motax deflectors. I'll take a pic or two when/if it stops raining.

I happened to notice this in looking for "farkles":

Looks like a good price?

That is the price of the shorty. They are all the same price as  the Cal Sci website without the group buy discount.

I like the looks of the tinted screen on the 08'. What did you use in the form of spacers or washers to secure the screen to the bike? I need to redo mine as the black mounting plate looks to have a bend or bulge where my spacer was used. I like it though.
