I think that was the very one I was talking about earlier! And it hung on the wall for years without anyone taking it down because it was really a de- motivational poster. Too funny. We could always tell who 'got it' though 'cause there would be the long look at the poster followed by the chuckle.... again.

So when modeling anything in any precision package today, such as Solidworks, ProE, etc., it is common to put something in the model to show relative size. This is normally done with a model of a 'human' so everyone can see how big / tall / wide / long the [machine, product line, device] is through comparison. A normal model would be something like this- labeled 'human' and scaled to be six feet tall:

Fine and well but honestly, pretty boring. Well, I picked up this little gem with a little more humor in it while I was in Germany and it is aptly named Frau Grosse, meaning 'big woman'. She is 1.7 meters tall and I can only guess as to her other measurements:

So for vendor use, I use the 'human' or similar and it is never commented on because everyone knows what it is and why it is there. But for internal use (Easy Boys! I mean internal to one company!) I slip in (Boys!) Frau Grosse to amuse myself and others. I have been very careful not to confuse the two situations of course.... except this one time when presenting an entire, absolutely huge process line to.... wait for it.... A Fortune 100 company. Someone notices a splash of color behind something and asks about it.... after some rotating and zooming, there she is in all her glory standing behind the line.... Frau Grosse. I forgot to swap her with 'human' for this presentation. This was a video conference and both groups (mine and the Op. For.) go completely silent while we stare at Miss Big Woman. Finally, a gentleman at the other company asks where her nipples are and everybody in both rooms loses all control. Same guy called me later in the day and asked for the file of Frau Grosse.  :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

And you say meetings cause chaos- sheesh!

Very good Brian, you should continue to practice good Configuration Management (CM) practices to keep things in control better.  You properly re-identified the item because Frau Grosse  is Form/Fit/Functionally different than human.
Do you also impose revision control?

On the second part, it does not matter because as long as the model is given different file names (and the leaders / tags are kept blank), they can be inserted / removed / reinserted (Easy Boys!) as often as you want. The only people that get to previous revisions are co- workers and they have all see Frau Grosse. Mr. Elkhoof too but I am holding Kirby in reserve for that special day when there is absolutely nothing else amusing going on anywhere nearby.

The first part is more ambiguous only because so many humans are involved. There is the 'how it is supposed to work', then the 'how we think it works' but those two pale compared with 'how it really works'.... which, of course like Rhino's meetings, is based in chaos in practice if not design.  ;) :o :-\

Nothing to worry about.  We can always write an EC (Engineering Change) when a modification is required. ;)

Yep.... well, actually in front of most meetings. :-)

Meetings, if done anywhere near correctly, beat back chaos. And chaos is the antithesis of progress. For example, if I was to set up a meeting about... oh, I don't know..... let's say: throttle recalibration, I would push chaos to the side and open the path to progress. See?

That or a C.A.R. (Corrective Action Request). :-(   Now there is a pestilence to all of mankind and of benefit to absolutely no one that I know of. And it pits different groups in the same organization against each other. I am cranky and annoyed just thinking about them....

That's kinda what griped me about during my term there.  IBM had many divisions essentially competing against each other with similar products.  It was a freakin nightmare.  And no one talked to each other.  Heck, they didn't talk to each other in the same division!  Don't get me wrong about IBM, I loved that company and still do but I get very frustrated working with them at times.

:yikes: and  :yikes: :yikes:   That's interesting as IBM has their own storage that spans from small to very large.

But their mainframe replication software (anything Mirror) is horrible... just plain horrible!  Some of their OpenSystems storage is just rebadged NetApp toasters.  :o

From what I understand (dam little of storage), those toasters are going away.  I can't speak to the replication side as I don't know that much about it.  I'm a System i guy (since '88)...we hate external storage.  Makes our life miserable, it does.

 >:(   Yes..you mean those IBM servers that don't get viruses, don't get hacked, reliability off the charts, easy to use and administrate, and in most Fortune 500 companies chugging away silently running back end applications?  If those are the servers you're talking about, then yes.  Been riding that horse since '88 and plan on continuing at least for the next 10 years.  The IBM road map for their life expectancy is past 2020 and is now on the Power8 generation. ;D

... Like my zSeries?  ;D  I've been doing the mainframe thing since 79.

I played with an F80(?) back in the early 90's... hooked it up to a token ring so it could PNET print to a Barr System server to print on our Xerox printers.  Dabbled around with it for a while... not much I could do with it as a mainframe Systems Programmer.  Those were fun days.  8)
