Our Cruise to Alaska 2012
« on: June 15, 2012, 01:44:00 PM »
We sailed out of San Francisco, and our ports were Ketchikan, Juneau, Haines and Victoria, BC. The cruise was 10 days and we were happy to have been upgraded to a cabin with a window on deck 7. There are about 50 pictures, I'll post 10 at a time and do text with each when applicable.

Getting ready to sail away.

Approaching the Golden Gate Bridge

Waving to the people on the bridge

Goodbye SF!

Arrived in Ketchikan 3 days later.

The famous Creek Street

Great story about Patsy Ann

Kim got cranky waiting to get on the Helicopter. She still wasn't sure she wanted to go through with it.

Refueling took forever. Almost ready.

This Blackhawk flew over quite a few times.

Ok lets get onboard.

Flight to the Mendenhall Glacier

That's the glacier we will be landing on.

Of course, she ended up having a great time, and absolutely loved the helicopter ride.

Back on land. They have a total of 14 helicopters.

Part of our helicopter tour included a salmon bake. The bugs were everywhere.

They had a waterfall behind the salmon bake.

Arrived at our third port, Haines, AK

Smallest brewery in the state of Alaska. I would have thought the only brewery. :)

Stunning scenery as we sailed up the Tracy Arm Fjord to see the glacier, then turned around and sailed out. You can see the glacier on the horizon.

Now in Victoria, BC. This is the Empress Hotel.

Some pretty cool totems in Victoria.

Bastion Square.

On our trip home we had to make a detour to Coos Bay, Or to offload a passenger who was diabetic. He was found unconscious with no pulse in his bathroom. They got a pulse back, but he never regained consciousness. We were about a half mile off the coast of Coos Bay, and this 48 foot Cutter met up with us to take the passenger ashore.

Back home, yay.
