Question about any carb changes over the years

Hi guys,

Have there been any carb changes over the years? Specifically, what carbs are interchangeable with my California '01? Do other models use the same?

  Pretty much the same  for all yrs Except for Cal. models and Furrin' ones. Slight jetting and slide changes. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct me.

This doesn't matter much but at some point the float bowls changed slightly.  I have a spare set and they drain screws/holes are not of identical size. The bowls themselves are interchangeable with other carbs but the screws are not swappable.  Just a tidbit of trivia to impress your friends with.

The manual-recommended non-calif main jet size went down from 125 to 115.

So for a apples to apples swap I need any year Cali carbs? And I can swap my jets and bowls with overflow tubes? And can't take carbs from any other bike than a Concours?

physically, any year Conni can supply the carbs you want. The minor floatbowl difference with the drain screw is moot. It will fit any kehein in the series of years. The Main jetting did differ, cali ones were a bit Fat, and though this sounds opposit of what it should be, they thought it would provide for faster warmup, and less wasted fuel.
Euro slide cover plastic caps had a longer extended "stop" that restricted the slides rise, and thus restricted top end h/p also.
jetting, bodies, fitup, use, and function, are otherwise interchangable.


as for bikes other than the conni you can use.....we can go into the 900/1000/1000r ninja carbs ad-nauseum, 32/34/36mm, and play this out, but there are sooooooooooo many Conni carbs available, stick to them.   it's easier.

Cool. Thanks. I just need a set as close to mine as I can get so I can try to rule out my carbs as the reason for my not so great running bike. If anybody has some they think would do the trick, I would love to borrow, rent, or buy them.

After serious study of the carb differences between the cali and 49 state models, I can tell you every jet / orifice / part is the same EXCEPT the cali models have 130 mains vs 125 for the 49 state, and the enrichener jet is a # 78 drill  rather than the larger # 75 found on the 49 state. No US carbs have 115 main jets, I'm sure that's reserved for the euro / au carbs with the restrictor tops. HTH, Steve

The only bikes that have the 115 jets are the Swiss 70Bhp ones.
UK/EU bikes have 125s as do the French (limited to 106PS).
The French limits are done with the carb tops.
Most sensible people take a Dremel to those. 

UK (and some other EU bikes) have carb de-icers fitted.
Just some plumbing that feeds warm coolant to warm up the carbs a bit.
Prevents icing in damp/cold conditions.

I believe the change in the float bowl & drain screw shape/size was at the 93 to 94 change.
