Title: Need a better rear tire
Post by: Silverbullet65 on March 22, 2019, 01:42:12 PM
Commuting on the Florida interstate
Is rediculous on tires on the c14
I’m mostly just going in a straight line
...when I ride in the mountains I’ll
Mount the pilot road fives but for the
Highway I’d really appreciate car tire
Size recommendations and brands you like
Thanks in advance

I guess I am one of the very few people that have tried a car tire on a 1400 Connie.   I have run thousands of miles on car tires on a 1800 Goldwing and I think on a Goldwing they are fantastic!!!   BUT on a Concours I would recomend to NOT do it.  They are not good.  They dont handle well.  They drop like a rock into a corner sometimes you think you are going to loose control of the bike.  If you think you have to do it I have the tire I took of and can get the size if you like. But I would not recomend it.

Gotcha...I was looking to hear from someone just like you who had done it before...I would be curious
To know what size the tire was if you don’t mind checking and thanks again for sharing your experience...I’m also thinking about the new Michelin commander II 200/55/17 tire I forget exactly but it’s supposed to be double the mileage...thanks again

Be forewarned, you may be made fun of but take it in stride and all will be well.

The tire I ran was a 205 50 17 Pirelli Cinturato P7.   I was a test.  I really thought it was a good idea.  It proved me wrong.  I did not like it on the Connie.

Thanks
I appreciate the information...
I was wondering if you were using it
On flatter highway riding or
Mountainous terrain?

I thought that I'd like to give it a try also but I have reservations.  Specifically safety related concerns.  I would like to get away from spending $1000+ a year on rubber.  I replace the tires at least twice a year as I commute 25K miles and ride the hell out of it on the weekends.

Financial benefits aside I think the reason I haven't done it nor do I plan on doing it, ever, are the low speed handling issues I have read about.  It appears that the bike basically falls of off the edge of the tire very rapidly in a deep turn.  This bike is designed to run in a groove of sorts and a CT changes the handling characteristics to that of a tank.

Good luck in your search.

Please be sure to come back here and let us know of your results using that tire, handling, mileage etc.
Thanking you  in advance Sb65. (to inspire some feelings of obligation?)  ;D
