Discovery's Last Flight
« on: April 17, 2012, 05:02:38 AM »
Should be a pretty cool morning here at work.  The 747 carrying the Discovery is supposed to make a low fly by here in Chantilly around 9:30.  Then fly over DC and then land back here at Dulles at around 10:30.  Luckily my office backs right up to the Udvar Hazy Museum.  Just a fence seperating part of the museum and our warehouse.  Hopefully they come in on the runway next to the museum.

Saw it from out my will-call door at my warehouse in Landover - for about 4 seconds.  Flying a low and fast, banking right turn to the south-east (showing us it's belly, mostly).

I have some great pics that my wife took from the roof of her office.  I just can't get them to load.  If there is someone that knows how to compress them and load them, Ican email them to you and you can post them here.

My building is in front of the State Dept. on on the mall facing the Lincoln Memorial. We have a 6th floor terrace, but I got up to the rooftop with the office video camera and camera and captured the mall flyovers.  Here are a couple of pics.

Here's a view from the rooftop to give you perspective of where I was.

Here's a whole bunch more...  http://www.flickr.com/photos/apha/6941838110/#in/photostream/

Some cool pics.  I like seeing all the buildings in the pics as well.  Here in Chantilly we took mostly close ups.  No one cares about the ugly buildings here. I will have to find a way to reduce the size of my wife's pics and get them up here.

If you load them to Flickr or have a Picasa and sync them, they will compress.  You can then link to the pics.
You can also re-size images in the paint program located in Accessories on Windows.

I like that it had its spotter plane escort there too.  Not a bad sending off.
