Bitten by the C10 bug again...
« on: August 17, 2015, 10:19:00 AM »
I admit it...I have a problem. Maybe it's ADHD, I'm not sure. But I have recently caught the fever for another C10.  I've owned two in the past, a 2000 that I crashed/totaled and a 2002 that for some reason I sold.  I've always missed that bike.

I've owned several bikes since, v-strom 650 and st1300 but I don't think I ever truly bonded with them. Sure they do most things "better" but for some reason my heart always comes back to the Concours.  I think part of it is the fun of being able to work on the bike and customize it how I like it. Other than riding, there are very few things I enjoy more than spending time "fiddling" in the garage, working on a project.

Not sure what the purpose of this post is, other than just looking for some reassurance that I'm not crazy...

You are not crazy. Better to catch a Concours fever than a fever from a hooker.

I assume you are not riding a Concours now. Are you riding anything else or bikeless now?

Picked up a 2007 v-strom 650 from a friend that bought a new C14.  The vstrom 650s are great bikes, this is my third one. It truly is a do it all type of bike and I have no complaints now that I've addressed it weakness (new 4-piston calipers and sonic springs). BUT...I still want a C10.

I'm worse than my wife in a shoe store...

Yeah, there are a few somewhat local I'm interested in.  One is a 98 and the other is an 02. Don't really need two motorcycles but...

Two motorcycles is the optimum, SV650S for short, sunny afternoon rides, Concours C10 to aim for the horizon.

This falls into the..."better to beg forgiveness than ask permission" category.   Maybe: "it was such a good deal, I couldn't pass it up"?

It's always a lot easier that way than to "discuss" it first. Saves time and the outcome will be the same anyways.
This street bike thing is all new to me.

This may be the ticket! Along with, "I couldn't afford NOT to..."

So as I start my journey to find a nice used C10, I am wondering is there a way to help determine if the bike has been hydrolocked...shy of taking the plastics off/ spark plugs out.  I know that's the only true way but I'm not sure it's practical to dismantle a bike I don't own yet.

Do hydrolocked bikes "buzz" more, idle rougher, etc?

I got a C14 after totaling a C10. The C14 is a awesome motorcycle, I've been to Texas 3 times on it but I miss my 02 Concours for the same reasons you mentioned.

Where are you located? I'm in N.Ga and might be interested in parting with a beautiful 2000 (Red) C-10  that only has 30,000 miles (turned over to that just last week). It's a really nice  bike. I bought it with 5,300 miles on it five years ago. Lots of farkles. Some will stay, all are negotiable.

I'm the third owner. First guy was in the Navy and was at sea a lot and didn't ride much. The second guy bought it to ride with his wife who actually rode with him on their Wing trike so they didn't ride the Connie much. He had a Sportster that he preferred in FL when riding alone.  When they moved back to Va, he sold the Connie to me rather than ship it. I work a lot and ride about 5,000 miles/year so the miles add up slowly.

I'm looking seriously at C-14's and don't really need two bikes. But, if I don't find it a great home, the 2000 will stay in the garage.

No.

Suggestion, make offer on bike, with a deposit to show you are serious, contingent on a compression/hydro check.
