Title: New pics. Got My Goldwing home. It was a chilly ride!
Post by: jamiemac on February 10, 2019, 02:48:22 PM
I figured to move on to a ride with a little less of a tucked riding position after the wreck, so I finally got a new Wing. It's the DCT model with a few extras, including the airbag system. Went to Niehaus Cycles in Litchfield, IL to buy it, and they are good folks to deal with. Can't wait for some good weather, so I can go back, and ride it home.

Congrats on the new bike!  The sun is shining out here with a balmy 50 degrees, a shame I can’t go enjoy it right now.  (Recovering from a tonsillectomy). Should be out riding in a week or less.

Question, what does DCT stand for?

Ouch! Hope the scratchiness is past, and You are feeling better! It's colder n a mofo here.

DCT = Dual Clutch Transmission. It'll function as a manual with paddle shifters on the handlebars, or fully automatic, with different shift points depending on the mode selected. And it's a seven speed. I'm still learning about it, but this is in my opinion, a game changer in motorcycle performance.

Congrats on the bike!  Love the red!  Rode one of the std transmission models in Evansville.  Went with a buddy to Clarksville to CC Powersports so he could ride the dual clutch models.  I didn't ride that one.  The dealership directed him to ride up 65 a couple of miles and turn around and come back.  I just hate 65 so I just followed on my son's C14.  The new wings are really really nice.  Really liked the seat on the 30 mile ride I took.  Wondering if that seat is as comfortable after a few hundred miles as it was in 30.

Me too about the seat. It seems pretty good! I expect I'll get a good feel for it when I ride it home from Niehaus. Thanks for the kind words.

Hey, I loved mine the whole ten years I owned it. I'd have another one if the wreck hadn't messed up the ol knee. I just needed a little lest bend. The airbag really just makes me feel better.

Congrats!

Jamie', please stick around and give us occasional feedback on the new wing. I know it will be tempting to wander off to new forums and forget your old friends, but please keep us in mind. With the eventual demise of c14 manufacturing and no likely suitable replacement coming from Mama Kaw, there are several of us that may want to follow in your foot steps.

I'll definitely do a comparison and give my thoughts on the differences and similarities of the two beasts at some point.

I bought a Wing last spring. It was kind of a turning 70 event and it sure does make the long rides with my wife more pleasant. I got to wondering if we may be the only riders to have both a new style Wing and a C14.

Is there anybody else?

I'd still have My Connie if it wasn't for a minivan and the loose nut behind the wheel.

Very nice!

I think you will find that it has plenty of capability, and is significantly more comfortable.

I considered a wing also before deciding on a K1600GT.

Nice! I bet that had some pretty decent fuel range, and great power!

Finally Home. Niehaus is a fun place to buy from. They have around 60 Goldwings right now. I'm pretty happy with the new ride. 250 miles was no problem, after being out of the saddle for almost a year. Pretty decent seat on the new wing, even after seeing everyone bit...complain about it on all the forums. The seat and grip heat were nice, but I just am not used to cold weather riding anymore, and my age might be catching up to me. I'll post more later. I'm going for a ride.

Congratulations J'mac!!!!!

For the new bike for sure, but mostly for the return to riding.  8) It is a big deal, and you should treat it that way.
OH, and you are not that old yet, so maybe get some heated gear.

..but again...CONGRATULATIONS!

Maybe a heated vest for good measure. Surely there is a port.

You were reading my mind! All I really need is a controller. I already have the heated stuff. I want one of those fancy wireless controllers.

Not from the factory, but I'm getting a controller for the heated gear I already own. Fancy new wireless one.

Does it have heated grips and seats?  I was out today on my Indian using both and while I didn't feel cold, once I got home I couldn't get warm again.  I have a heated Gerbing vest (wired) that I just plug into the cig lighter port on the dash, but I didn't turn it on.  Just now starting to use it and most of Winter is now gone for me.

These days it has to be sunny for me to be out in the cold, otherwise I take the truck.

I hear ya! Yeah, it's got both the grips and seat heat. They're nice, but after about an hour, they just couldn't make up for the loss of body heat. My Brother in Law was in their minivan, and made the trip with me, so at the first fuel stop, I climbed in there to warm up, and dress in a few more layers under my winter riding gear. That got me the rest of the way home in pretty good shape. If I decide to ride in anymore temps below 50 though, I'll put a heat troller on it. Brrrr.

Enjoyed your post. I bought a 2109 Goldwing Tour DCT last summer and really enjoy it, but for me I’m looking for a Connie as a second bike lol.  New 2019 Connie’s can be bought new for 11k !!
Hoping to find around a 2016 or so used to purchase for around 7.5k  With your Connie we’re you able to do much long distance riding?

I rode mine all over the country.  The bike is designed for long distance touring at break neck speeds.

Hey Virginia, finally got the Connie for my second bike. 2012 with only 3500 miles, had to go from Michigan to Des Moine Iowa to trailer it back. Nice bike, definitely a sportier ride.  Thanks for your kind remarks in earlier posts.
