zipper chip on tank
« on: July 17, 2014, 05:52:13 PM »
So I have a couple deep chips on the tank from a jacket zipper.
Anyone here ever try a rattle can patch and then tank guard cover up?

What should I use to stop any rust.

Make sure the steel is clean, no rust. Then use some rust bullet or Por-15 as a base. Then cover with paint as advised on the previous application.
Then I'd cover it with a tank pad once it is good and dry.
I used a dremel on a couple of spots on the roof of my truck (to ensure clean steel) then used Por-15 and then the matching auto paint in a bottle to dab it on.
As an example on the paint for the Concours - http://www.colorrite.com/product/kawasaki-684-metallic-nocturne-blue-1609.cfm
But if the scratch doesn't go to the steel, then I would use a dremel or worry about the steel part.

Thanks.   Any advice on a tank pad with full coverage.

As much as I dislike that look they probably stick better than the ebay cheapo I bought and installed. It's now unsticking, de-sticking, anyway it's coming un-glued  :)
I may have to buy the tank pad there that faces the rider. And it's more of a pad also. Trying to talk myself into tit  ;)
