Rear Tire Mileage Report
« on: December 21, 2015, 06:16:58 PM »
Installed an Avon AV46 in August/06, 7mm tread, 6mm to wear bars, lasted 19000 km.
Installed an Avon AV46 in September/08, 6mm tread, 5mm to wear bars, lasted only 8000 km.
Installed an Avon Av36 in September/10, 6mm tread, 5mm to wear bars, lasted only 6000 km.

Became disenchanted with Avon mileage, switched to Michelin.
Installed a Michelin Commander in September/11, 7mm tread, 6mm to wear bars, lasted 24000 km.
Just replaced with a Commander II.

Where did you find the AV36 that you installed in 10 and what was its date code? That is/was an old sport tyre and was not known for long life even 10 plus years ago. Also just my opinion here but its not fair to compare the AV46 a Sport/Touring tyre known for sporting use to the Commander which is promoted as a Power Cruiser tire....

Quite right, the AV36 was an oldie, and I only put it on 'cause I got it cheap.

The point I was trying to highlight is that Avon seems to have cut back on the amount of rubber that it uses with the AV46 (7mm tread down to 6mm). This makes for a lighter tire with good compliance and delicate handling, but it kills mileage.

I got about 15000 km from the previous K700 but the Avons 'felt' better. The Commander 'feels' just as good.

The first Avon and the Commander were comparable in mileage, and I would never grouch over 19000 km from a rear tire. 8000km from the second seems a tad low.
