geez MoB......No be so fierce. Dylan's an entertainer not a walk on water prophet. I have to wonder what the lefties on the Nobel committee were trying to accomplish. I could very well be wrong but I can't imagine that they actually believe their own propaganda. I don't consider it a dis to Mr Dylan to, as a consumer, express my personal likes and dislikes of his product. Anyway... Rock On...  :chugbeer:

...as no talent azzklown selling music fow 50 years...

No Talent azzclowns DON'T last 50 years...

Dylan is one of the top singer-songwriters of the last 50 years...

Taste is a purely subjective thing...  I happen to really enjoy Dylan's stuff, but others may not.  That's their perogative. ( Just as it's mine, and yours as well MOB, to think they're missing out...    :o )

For example, I don't like scotch - they say it's an acquired taste, but I've never been able to drink enough to acquire it, I guess...  ( sure, call me a quitter...   ;D  )

I'm definitely with Rich on this one.  Dylan deserved it.

It seems that perhaps he doesn't want the Nobel anyways. Isn't there a million dollar stipend that goes along with the prize?   :o

http://www.cnn.com/2016/10/18/entertainment/bob-dylan-noble-prize-trnd/index.html

Bob Dylan, the Swedish Academy just wants to make you feel their love.

Days after he was awarded the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature for "having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition" the Academy said it's given up on trying to reach the iconic musician.

"We have stopped trying -- we said everything we needed to his manager and friend, he knows about us being eager having confirmation from him, but we haven't heard anything back," Odd Zschiedrich, the administrative director of the Swedish Academy, told CNN on Tuesday.

He said they have been in touch with Bob Dylan's management but have not heard back from the singer-songwriter himself.

"We will have the ceremony as usual, he will have the prize even if he is not there," he said. "Now we are just waiting for information."

CNN has reached out to reps for Dylan.

The singer has hardly been blowin' in the wind.

He was in concert Monday night in Las Vegas, but so far has remained silent about the accolade.

Others have had plenty to say about Dylan becoming the second musician (Rabindranath Tagore was the first in 1913) to be named a recipient of the prestigious award.

There has been debate as to Dylan's lyrics merit being honored among some of the greatest works of literature ever produced.

The times they are a changin'.

Actually, I find it amusing, maybe he thinks back, and regrets the photos of him being awarded a medal from the Obamanator...and cringes every time he sees it...

I don't think money comes into play for Bob....
Karma means more to him.....

Next time around everyone should vote for Willie Nelson.....hehehehehe

(I joke, because the last time I saw either of them was at a concert in Richmond Va, couldn't understand a word of what Willie was singing, but Bob's songs came thru with amazing clarity, and a great band performance....).   Bob  sounds soooo much better now in concert, I'm serious, he really does.....
When I was 12, 14, 17, 20.... he never had that clarity....

Funny,
People don't take the time anymore, to write soo many words for a song.....
I guess it isn't a part of todays music. Nor ever will be again,

But what does it all mean?
The words, what do they mean? I'm soo confused....

Oh, the ragman draws circles
Up and down the block
I'd ask him what the matter was
But I know that he don't talk
And the ladies treat me kindly
And they furnish me with tape
But deep inside my heart
I know I can't escape
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile with the
Memphis blues again
Well, Shakespeare, he's in the alley
With his pointed shoes and his bells
Speaking to some French girl
Who says she knows me well
And I would send a message
To find out if she's talked
But the post office has been stolen
And the mailbox is locked
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again
Mona tried to tell me
To stay away from the train line
She said that all the railroad men
Just drink up your blood like wine
An' I said, "Oh, I didn't know that
But then again, there's only one I've met
An' he just smoked my eyelids
An' punched my cigarette"
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again
Grandpa died last week
And now he's buried in the rocks
But everybody still talks about how
Badly they were shocked
But me, I expected it to happen
I knew he'd lost control
When I speed built a fire on Main Street
And shot it full of holes
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again
Now the senator came down here
Showing ev'ryone his gun
Handing out free tickets
To the wedding of his son
An' me, I nearly got busted
An' wouldn't it be my luck
To get caught without a ticket
And be discovered beneath a truck
Oh, Mama, is this really be the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again
Now the tea preacher looked so baffled
When I asked him why he dressed
With twenty pounds of headlines
Stapled to his chest
But he cursed me when I proved it to him
Then I whispered and said, "Not even you can hide
You see, you're just like me
I hope you're satisfied"
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again
Now the rainman gave me two cures
Then he said, "Jump right in"
The one was Texas medicine
The other was just railroad gin
An' like a fool I mixed them
An' it strangled up my mind
An' now people just get uglier
An' I have no sense of time
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again
And when Ruthie says come see her
In her honky-tonk lagoon
Where I can watch her waltz for free
'neath her Panamanian moon
An' I say, "Aw come on now
You know you knew about my debutante"
An' she says, "Your debutante just knows what you need
But I know what you want"
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again
Now the bricks lay on Grand Street
Where the neon madmen climb
They all fall there so perfectly
It all seems so well timed
An' here I sit so patiently
Waiting to find out what price
You have to pay to get out of
Going through all these things twice
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again

ONE OF MY PERSONAL FAVORITES, has always been this.. i guess seeing Easy Rider must have ingrained it...

http://youtu.be/mYajHZ4QUVM

Disillusioned words like bullets bark
As human gods aim for their mark
Make everything from toy guns that spark
To flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark
It's easy to see without looking too far
That not much is really sacred

While preachers preach of evil fates
Teachers teach that knowledge waits
Can lead to hundred-dollar plates
Goodness hides behind its gates
But even the president of the United States
Sometimes must have to stand naked

An' though the rules of the road have been lodged
It's only people's games that you got to dodge
And it's alright, Ma, I can make it

Personally, I think there are a lot of artists that do a great job with lyrics. From Pink to Springsteen to Toby Keith, the lyrics are  there and meaningful. If you choose to actually listen to them.

In many ways, Dylan was more of a poet than a song writer. A great poet, in fact. But poetry is lost on many, if not most people. I am one of them. I need messages to be succinct, not subliminal. I prefer gritty and in your face as opposed to colorfully dancing around the edges and making suggestions to the meaning. But that's just me...

Well, if the lyrics are what the award is issued for, 2 outta the 3 won't even make a ripple.. maybe the Springhead, will, in another 2 decades, but man, ..the other 2, lyrics?

To each their own tho, we all have favorites, and there are millions to be made in the music industry...and music is just that...Frank Zappa proved it...

Speaking of the Z, his musical composition was wayyyy beyound the time, and at least his lyrics fed our humor needs, while being surprisingly effective..
