Radiator Guards
« on: November 30, 2019, 09:29:34 AM »
Has anyone used the cheap radiator guards on Ebay?  There seems to two different China brands.

I have the Arashi one on my bike.
Been on the bake about 3 years. No problems.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Arashi-Radiator-Grille-Guard-Cover-Protector-Fit-KAWASAKI-Concours-14-GTR1400/401466144824?epid=10007590045&hash=item5d793f3838:g:39cAAOSw4T5XHfrM

Came shipped flat and I had to form the radius.
(easily formed it over the OD of a tire)
Also had to tweak the mounts a bit to get them to line up exactly.
I suspect neither was more effort than you need to do on the more expensive brands....

I like the fact that it has little plastic standoffs to keep it away from the radiator.

Doesn't quite make up for that huge logo, though :)

ALSO YOU CAN INSTALL THE “MURPHS” FENDER EXTENSION FOR THE REAR OF THE FRONT FENDER WHICH HELPS GREATLY TO PREVENT ROCKS AND DEBRIS FROM BEING THROWN INTO THE RADIATOR.  I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY KAWASAKI MADE THE FRONT FENDER SO SHORT ON THE REAR, JUST MY OPINION.

I been running the extend-ah, since '07 on my C14, and have them on my C10 also....
not saying anything bad about an additional screen, over the rad, but so far I been good... now with the bike I own, being soooooo old, if I do Hole a radiator, I'll snatch one off e-bay, or fix it myself, and apply the big 5 gallon bucket paint roller screens I bought from home depot, project, to the protection thing.. but I'm lazy..those silly roller screens cost me $5 each, and I have 2 in case I screw up.... ;D ;D

you cn figure out how to fab them up,

MOB, I thought the same about not having a Radiator screen, {ie; So far / so good}.
I saw a Buddy hole his rad by a rock thrown up by another bikes tire.
Luckily I had a trailer and he only had to set by the road for about an hour.
{and} I then hauled his bike home and he rode mine...

Bottom line; The bit of protection offered from any Rad Screen, beats setting on the side of the road in the boonies, and/or having to pay to get the bike hauled or fixed.

Ride safe, Ted

My replacement 08 came with a Cox. But for my original 08 I made a radiator guard out of a $6 piece of gutter guard from Home depot, cut to length per isnstructions posted on the first generation of this forum.

I hear ya man, and agree...
but then I always carry my old stand by, Mr. J.B. at all times... two fresh tubes, and 2 "epoxy mix-sticks" of JB Weld, can fix anything...almost... but a radiator, for sure.. to get home.

I've used JB Weld on a friends bmw radiator where the fan decided it did not want to be part of the bike anymore.  Works great and always carry those tubes but I think I would rather not have it happen in the front of the rad to begin with.  I had the front fender extender, the rad shield, and the shield for the oil filter.  Never can be too sure.

I used [original] JB weld to fix two fairing mounts that broke.  First time I had used it before.  It seemed to work and is still holding.  I was impressed.

don't get me wrong tho... protection is always better than repair.. but those damned people that don't carry the stuff, are the ones I end up fixing on the road.
Heck, I just cleaned out my C14 "onboard bike shop" and removed all the C10 parts I carried, after I got back from the nationals this year.. dropped 20# off my bike..... 8) 8)
