ignition problem
« on: July 06, 2012, 06:31:11 PM »
I had a problem last week with my junction box, now a new problem! J/B seems ok. Rode bike for two hours,no problems, went to turn ignition off, bike kept running, had to use kill switch to stop bike. My lights stayed on and bike was running with the key in my hand! Disconnected battery, thought maybe some thing got hot, because it has been in the 90's in the northeast. Hooked up battery, all seems fine, rode home from NH, no problems, stopped bike to open garage, when I got it into garage it would not shut off again, but noticed if I turned the wheel side to side it would work fine. Would any one know if this is associated with the J/B I had problems with, or a bad ignition switch? 8)

If your main relay was not releasing, it would cause what you describe

Sounds to me like your bike was not ready to go to bed yet!

Your answer is in your post.... The Main Relay in the J-Box does not have anything to do with the bike's ignition system just the Main Fuse which feeds the Key Switch and Kill Switch before powering the ignition system. You could have a couple of shorted wires in the harness thus when you turn the bars they move around at the key switch to wiring harness connection and/or a failing key switch. Follow the path of the White wire with Red stripe leaving from the (+) battery connection to the main fuse out to the key and kill switch and you will see that "your" problem can only be caused by shorted wired or a stuck key switch.
