It's nearly British Summer time here in England!!!
« on: March 30, 2013, 05:26:12 PM »
Well with the forecast for cold and dry I thought I'd go for  a little run. Out and about up at Alston, down towards High Force, back home via Middleton in Teesdale. Bloody marvellous.
And i have to say, I just didn't want this ride out to stop. Dry and deserted roads, fantastic weather. Couldn't have been better.

Teacher, what is used to clear the roads, plowing only, or plowing and salt or other chemicals? The sheer amount of salt and calcium chloride on the roads here make riding not a good idea until a few good rains wash it mostly away, mid April usually.

Interesting, they've been experimenting here with sugar beet juice and salt brine. I think they are going to stop using the brine and start concentrating on more eco friendly compounds as the water tables are starting to show rising pollution levels.

It may be sticky, but, I'll take molasess over calcium chloride anytime. Of course I'm sure the temps here are a bit cooler over more months than there. They use the chemicals here when it goes below 25F. I'm not sure how often and for how long it may get below 25F there, we may go for weeks and some places months.
