Max?  You dug out yet?

Let's just say "ug".  How 6-8" of snow can turn into 4 foot snow drifts is amazing (I guess that is why they threw the term "blizzard" on it).  And such drifts are certainly are not compatible with this area.  At midnight, I made sure to go out and push all the snow off the Concours tent/cover.  Power was intermittently failing all through the night.  This morning, walking to work was brutal.

The drift in front of the garage ensures the G37S is trapped (not like a low-clearance, rear-wheel drive, sporty car works much on mostly unplowed streets, anyway).  So here I am, mostly trapped, still.  But that's OK :)  (As long as I have electricity/gas/water/Internet).

You must be closer to the coast Max. Only got 2-3 inches here and very little wind. Back down in the single digits again tonight. Im looking forward to next week. Back up in the 50's with some rain to wash away all the salt and sand. Should be able to get some riding in after that!

5 miles from the bay, 12 from the ocean

Two other sources said we got 10", so my 6-8" estimate might be too low.  Tons of wind, although that mostly went away by afternoon.

Guaranteed I won't be able to ride this weekend :(   Temps will stay far below freezing (10F tonight, high of 23F tomorrow, low of 10F again, same Saturday, same Sunday) , so the ice is going nowhere.  But perhaps the following weekend there will be hope...

We got about 3 in King George but it was a difficult commute this morning.  Drove the wife in for work this morning.

Well, it was sunny, beautiful blue ski and 37 degrees where I live. Sounds great doesn't it? Problem is, I live a few miles from the Vail Ski Area and we got SQUAT for snow >:(

Someone is screwing with us big time this year.

Jeebus. I flew from Longmont (25 NE of Denver) to Durango and back today. At 16,500' so I didn't smoosh into any of those pesky mountains. Outside air temp (at elevation) was a balmy 17* with 100 mile visibility. Froze my tootsies off, figuratively, as I don't have cabin heat. NBD

Heat is for whimps my mother said, as she chipped another nose-snot icicle off my nose after my three mile walk home from school. Uphill both ways, I might add. Ahh, those were the days when men were men, and mothers carried ice picks.

Yeah, and AWD mixed with some people seems to cause them to think the brakes will work much, much better in the snow than that old 2- wheel drive car they used to drive. AWD allows them to get up to much too high a speed, much faster and makes for interesting situations at stop signs, red lights and similar. Not to worry though, the other car in the intersection goes a long way to slowing the first one down.....

Some lessons learn easy, some lessons learn hard and some lessons are just never learned.

Nice job!

1) Correctly placed.
2) Spelled correctly.
3) Assumed mocking of the OP's apparent lack of..... er, inches.

Excellent!

Not much snow up in northern MN, but we are getting tired of the continuing cold (even though we are supposed to be "used to it"). We are going on the third week of many nights/mornings of sub-20*F and daytime highs often not getting above -0*F. The temp at my travel to work destination was -31 this morning and -24 upon leaving home. Was a bit nervous about the diesel fuel gelling up through the remote stretches but no issues there and back. A bit to the north, between home and the Canadian border saw a few official sub -40* F readings. Dangerous stuff, thankfully winds have generally been relatively mild.
Speptic system drainfield started to freeze up a while back so had to go buy a couple of the 1000# straw bales to cover/insulate it from the cold. So far, so good. Warming a bit this weekend (getting out of the single digits) and maybe 20*F by midweek before dropping into coldness some more.
The battery on the Honda wanted no part of the assistance from the charger, showing a fault. I think when it warms up it will be ok as I've had the charger "fault" before on various batteries when it's too cold.
This street bike thing is all new to me.
Snowmobiles-I have a bunch of those.

Minus 10F here at the moment.

Just 5 miles to the west of me they have minus 19F! That town always has lower temps than just about any place near. The town is in a low area and the cold pools there.

As far as snow goes, we have around 6" of VERY fine snow on the ground.

We had a good 6" of snow about 3 weeks ago which hung around for about a week or so, before it thawed and then immediately froze....that was good fun...NOT, and yeahg I did manage to fall and sustain some bruises and pulled muscles

There has been very heavy rain and storms this last week with some damage and power outages across a wide area here in Northern Ireland

Today the weather is truly stunning and I even thought that I might go for a ride, BUT despite clear blue skies it is very...very cold , about 2c so I decided that factoring in the wind chill that it would be well below 0c

SO I WIMPED OUT  :-[

15F last night.  10F tonight.  Car still stuck in garage.  Still stranded at home, now until Tuesday :(
They plowed all the main roads, and even the secondaries, but not my neighborhood- none of which matters anyway, because my driveway is hopeless.

Shoveling snow is a good aerobic workout.

When it originally fell, it was a mix, so it froze solid on the bottom.  I simply don't have the energy (or correct tools) to remove it.  My driveway is short but steep and has a particularly difficult connection to the road, which is also not clear, and there is also a buried park car on the opposite side of the street.   G37S is rear-wheel drive with little ground clearance.   I have been stuck trying to get out of the driveway in the past in similar conditions.

So I am just not desperate enough to expend the energy or take the risk.  So, stuck I am!

It is unfortunate that kids these days are not willing to seize the opportunity to make money. When I was a kid... (wait, I must be getting old. I'm telling "when I was a kid" stories!)

Anyway, I made a killing going door to door shoveling snow. How else was a poor farm kid going to make money to pay for dirt bikes and parts?!?!

FIFY  Conrad.  :rotflmao:

Moving snow out of the way is one of life's most useless tasks IMO. By June, all of it is gone anyway and so the entire process is pointless. A nature- provided, make- work project.

I now have two snowblowers and am not done yet 'cause both of them are horrible to use. The first was a 29" Craftsman (made by AYP) and I 'stepped in it' pretty badly when I bought it because I did not realize it has a locked axle. So maneuvering the thing is a true horror show and exhausting. Then I bought a tracked Honda, going to the very epitome of snowblowers to ease that problem and that one is nearly as hard to maneuver but worse, very difficult to set up and use on a crushed stone driveway because the cutting edge, and auger depth is adjustable and can be set to be too high or too low.  ::)  So now I am eye-balling another, and hopefully final, solution. I am going to try a set of polymer shoes, much longer than the stock setup and hopefully that may allow the Honda to be set to dig in but prevent it from actually digging into the stone. Honda has corrected all of these errors and situations but a new blower is close to $3K. Ariens has some that also seem like they would work very well but frankly I am not confident that a middle- of- the- line model will be the solution and their top- of- the- line models are MORE than $3K. I would love to lease one for a season and 'test blow' (Easy Boys!) with it before actually buying one but that is not possible. And used Hondas are much less common than chicken's teeth, and the Ariens newer units are too new to be showing up used yet.

Brian

Shoveling snow is a good aerobic workout..... that is enjoyable to watch others perform from the comfort of one's living room, preferably with the wood stove loaded and humming along.
