Pops no bangs
« on: October 06, 2020, 11:46:47 AM »
98 C10. 22k miles, Carbs rebuilt/serviced about 500m ago.
Once warm/up to running temp, I get mild pops (not real backfire/bangs) from exhaust when decelerating. As far as I can tell carb boots are tight (now) as are bolts holding exhaust header to motor.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks

If you have aftermarket or modified mufflers then it is probably caused by the PAIR valves introducing air into the exhaust.
If you have OEM mufflers (unmodified) then it's probably a leak in the exhaust where the mufflers join the headers, or else the balance pipe under the engine has a hole in it. Either way, air is getting into the exhaust and burning the unburnt gas in the hot exhaust on deceleration.

OEM cans.
Time to take a much closer look at the whole exhaust. yip   ee.
I'm getting quite adept at removing/replacing the fairings. Anyone using "quick release" pins or similar?
