Can C-10 Bar Risers be tapped for Ram Ball?
« on: November 24, 2011, 08:06:25 AM »
I have been exploring options of a way to add a techmount for my i-pod to my C-10.  w/o handlebar space, options are limited.  I saw the modification to dash visor, thanks.

I was thinking -why cannot my currently installed aftermarket bar riser be tapped to add a Ram mount like the ones that come with Concours 1400s?  Has anyone done this on the C-10 with any success?

Are you thinking to tap the surface facing the rider? Or the inside surface? It looks to me as though the inside surface might have the most available meat for drilling and tapping. You may very well break through into the mount bolt holes, but as long as the ball thread doesn't protrude when mounted that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I don't know if this location would work for you, but the PO of my bike put his RAM ball in the center of the upper triple tree cover.  It screws onto a looong piece of All-thread rod, which goes down through the middle of the head tube and has a large washer and nut on the bottom to secure it.  I don't use it for anything, but it's a clean installation.

Yeah, really. I've been looking for a stem stand and couldn't find one.
This would work nicely.
Thanks.

There's already a threaded boss on each bar. Some one please verify: (10mm x 10.5) or (10mm x 10.25). Just pry off the plastic plug.

I have owned 3 C-10's and have mounted GPS on each using RAM equipment.  The most vibes are out near the grips and for that reason I stay away from bar-end mounting. (I nearly killed a Quest once in 300 miles on a mirror-hole mount on my first C-10)  I later developed a mount which simply tapped into the steering stem in the same position as the photo but took more work (drills, taps etc.)  The idea of just using a threaded rod is brilliant and fully reversable.  Very little vibration gets through in this location.  I'm working to fabricate a mount on top of the dash cover so my Quest2 will be easier to see while riding.  (when tank bag is "on", you need a Looooong RAM arm to see the GPS)  Mike in TX

I don't like the vibes on the bar mount so I mounted mine on top of the dash. Easy to see also.

M10 x 1.25   ;)

FWIW, this is also the same thread as the brake banjo bolts that secure the brake hoses to the calipers.
