SOHC Honda turned ZG1000 rider.
« on: June 01, 2019, 01:26:39 PM »
Hello all.  I'll be looking for mechanical info on replacing one of,ya connecting rods. I own a Concours now and put lots of miles on it. Unfortunately, it's a boat anchor until I fix it. .

Is one of them bent and do you know which one it is?

1 or 4 require engine removal and splitting cases.

2 or 3 which can be done with the engine in the frame, without splitting the cases.

#4. Naturally. I figured on a complete removal. It's not only bike so I'm in no hurry. I'd like to get it done by next summer.  do the case split top and bottom or side to side?  To be honest, I haven't even looked at the motor for a few years. I went to sell the bike last year and after getting it running(perfectly), I left the petcock on.  You know the rest. I parked it and thought on it for a year. I have a friend with a free donor motor but it's 14 hours round trip and all I know is it is in a wrecked bike with bent forks.

The 14 hours and chance on the other bike, may be the easiest route to go.
I hate splitting cases!!!

Is there any chance you could get the owner of the donor bike to do a bent rod test before your drive?

Ride safe, Ted

I've never split cases on a bike before. I'm ok with it being a new experience.

This sounds like a project that will need picture documentation. Looking forward to it.
