I feel guilty. Not!
« on: August 29, 2013, 01:16:49 PM »
We rode stelvio pass and gavia pass this afternoon. that woud bi in the italian alps. I thought Colorado was nice and all, but...

The turns here give a new meaning to hairpin curve. Think slipping the clutch in 1st. On a few turns anyway. Google the passes for an overview, or wait until I can use a card reader for my camera. This iPad doesn't do flash cards.

A pix from my bedroom window in Temu ( on the ss42 road) in n Italy. Room, with breakfast is... I'm embarrassed to say how cheap.

They don't speak English here, or German for that matter. Italian is kinda like Spanish, google translate helps a bit when i have wifi.

GPS times are useless in Italian alps. Zumo says 4 hours at 90 km/hr, but the roads we've ridden will only support 70km/hr, and for very brief stretches. If I was here full ime, sides of tires (both) would wear out first.

Tried to make it to Verona, but came up short. Staying the night ($50 with breakfast) in Argegno, Italy, on a lake.

We even have our own cop to watch the motorcycles. First pix.
Second shot is up the street, where we'll be heading in am. Note bikes can pass whenever convenient. And unlike ALL of USA, drivers here accept that.

Rode into Switzerland this am. New la gauge, though most understand and speak German and Italian too. New money also, Swiss franc.

Martin says in three days of riding, since leaving Munich, we've done 900km. Seems we've done more for some reason...

Lunch stop in Switzerland, barely.

Did you rent bikes or ship yours?  If you shipped how much is transportation and insurance while over there.
I always wanted to be somebody......I guess I should have been more specific.

Rick, if your bored with the awesome paved bits of Colorado I strongly suggest a bit of time on the epic gravel bits.  Makes them Eyetalian curves look straight :o ;D

Much as I hate to say it, after riding three ( maybe it was four or five?) days in the alps, Colorado roads suk. Seriously. Scenery is nice though.

Hi guys, here are the routes we followed with Rick on the last weekend across as many passes as possible. It was great fun and we overtook everything in 2 and 4 wheels. We even met a BMW Z8 group (about 20 of them) in the Maloja Pass in Switzerland and overtook them on the inside of the hairpins, on the outside and on a straight line. Ducatis, BMW GS, you name it. Not once were we overtaken. We even managed to overtake a mighty HD Electra Queen or whatever it was called ;D

Thursday
Friday
Saturday
Sunday

From the top of my head I can remember the Flüela Pass, Stelvio Pass, San Bernardino, Splügen, Umbrail, Gavia, Reschen, Fuorn, Bernina, and who knows what else. Top elevation was Stelvio Pass at 9045 feet.
cheers,
Martín
