Waxing of the Windshield
« on: April 01, 2012, 11:59:29 AM »
Got caught in heavy rain yesterday, had rain gear on, so I did not get wet but I  could not see a thing. I understand that RainX is a no no for motorcycle windshields, but some members use wax as a water repellent. I have heard about waxing car windshields but motorcycle windshields are plastic (in my case VStream) and can scratch easily. What do you use on your windshield as a water repellent?

I have used Plexus, it cleans and polishes but not that repell water, at least not like RainX.

I use Rain-X on both the helmet shield and the bike shield.  I haven't had a problem with either one.

I understand this. Plexus has worked well for me the few times I've been in the rain. Honda has a plastic wax which might also do the job.

ICE.
Love it, no streaking, and the rain just flies off.

Not frozen H2O, it is a Synthetic  based wax that is excellent for any and all glass, and clear or smoked plastic, and clear coats over paints.
It is made by Turtle Wax, is in box with a shammie, polish pad and the glass jar with the wax. I don't recall how much it was, my jar is probably 5 yrs old now, it goes a long way.
I remember getting at Wally World, so there you go. I use it on any and all the painted parts and windscreen of my Connie. Good stuff.
Hope that helps,
Ride safe all,
Greg

Lemon Pledge works pretty well and the price is right, may just try some of this Turtle Wax Ice tough.

Thanks Gsun for asking about ICE..thought I was the only one out of the know.

I use multi-purpose pledge on my bike and windshield, but it does not bead water like RainX does on a glass windshield.

Has anyone heard of or used a product called Raincoat which is made by motosolution.com? This product is supposed to bead water and is made specifically for motorcycle windshields.

Pledge on the bike shield, Plexus on the face shield.  But, well, my shorty is painted black (speed limiter), and my Cee Baileys Euro is mostly painted, I always ride looking over the top.  When a face shield gets scratched I replace it without a second thought.  BTW, I live in the PNW, thats Pacific North Wet ;D
