3 day weekend Texas ride
« on: October 05, 2011, 08:41:56 AM »
I had to work last Sunday so now I wound up with an unexpected 3-day weekend. Since the temps have finally dropped below 90 around the Houston area I figure its time to tour the great state of Texas. I be riding solo for the three days and am looking forward to it. Nothing like some long saddle time to get your mind back in line. I plan on avoiding all interstates and as many major state highways as possible. I figure I'll leave early Friday morning & head north thru Dayton & Cleveland & start heading west from there. Onward thru the forest & into the hills towards Brenham and Bryan / CS. Continue on towards Marble falls. Break as needed no one to complain & no where I have to be so where ever I am when the sun goes down is where I'll sleep. Saturday I'll make my way towards the Three Sisters & enjoy the hill country. I then hope to make my way towards the coast. Sunday I'll continue heading towards the coast then turn more north/east & head for home. If I make it to highway 35 that's the route I use, if not I take another route as long as it isn't a freeway. Any way that's the plan, if you could call it that. Hopefully I'll stop long enough to get some pics to share. Ride safe everyone. 8)

Thats why I always carry a rainsuit. One of the reasons I bought this bike.. lotsa storage space. ;D If it gets too bad I can always head back to the homestead, but it'll have to get pretty bad for me to do that. Thanks for the heads up.

Have fun and don't forget to stop and smell the roses mesquite.
Keeping the economy going, one tank of fuel and two tires at a time.

That sir is why I decided to ride this one solo. the last couple of rides I went on with some one else just seemed to have too much urgency to get some where. I hope to make this ride about the journey not the destination. 8)

Once you get to the Fabulous Hill Country, make sure and rip up HWY 55. It has the most deserted and EPIC sweepers in the USA.

Don't miss it!

You'll be in the neighborhood of the Lone Star Motorcycle Museum which is near Lost Maples State park and serves good burgers and Australian Meat Pies (that style - not meat from Australia  ;) )

A fun stop, an interesting collection of vintage mainly Euro racers, a really friendly and laid-back Collector-Owner-Operator.

Enjoy your ride!

Burgers are OK, but some of the best pies you have ever eaten.
