I did a quick search but didn't find anything specific on this. I rode in to work this AM. It was low 40's. I went out for lunch and it was maybe 48 degrees. On the way to lunch I got the tire pressure sensor low battery warning. It cleared up before I got back to work and has not been on since. Was this just a fluke deal? Maybe the cooler temps got to it sitting outside at work? I had to replace the rear one this past spring so wouldn't be surprised the front is now low.
I just had the bike in the shop a couple weeks ago for the brake recall. It would have been nice if it would have failed before I took it in!

There actually have been many posts about TPS failing and giving warnings. Cold weather does affect the sensor/battery. What year is the bike? I ask because some owners have gotten warranty replacements (I think 08 & 09) and others have had fights with dealers/Kawasaki about coverage. I have not had mine fixed and do get the warning temporarily when it's cold and then it goes away when the tires warm up.
-
Perfectly normal. Mine has done this since day one anytime the temp is below 50 degrees. mine is an '09. When mine finally go belly up not sure i'll pay to have them replaced or fight my dealer for warranty coverage.
Guess i'll go back to the old tried and true check them your darn self method.
-
My 09 showed the rear TPS battery was low one time last year when I went out on a 35 degree ride. I have ridden in colder weather since and now through the summer haven't seen a low RTPS battery show again. I was in Butt MT in Sept this year and the TPS saved my behind once again. I had unknowingly picked up a piece of wire.
Since I bought the extended warrenty for $339, I hope there is no arguement when the TPS battery dies or I warp a rotor.
-
Both of mine were complaining this past weekend with temps down to 32F. I'm going in for some service work soon and will ask to get them looked at.
-
I had one doing that and took a picture of it and showed it to the dealer. They replaced it under warranty.
-
I've been getting a warning for my rear TPMS battery. Dealer is changing it on Wednesday. New PR2 then as well.
-
I was getting the warning in 50 degree temps. Took it to the dealer, they broke the sensor removing the tire and I am now waiting on a new sensor. Broken or not still being replaced under warranty for the low battery (battery is attached by a wire so the sensor itself has to be replaced).
-
Rip them out of there, not needed and just another electronic gizmo to act up.
-
Batteries are replaceable, it just requires a little soldering, finesse, and patience. There's even a documented pictorial guide posted online for those that want to do it themselves.
-
The sensors on my 08 (purchased 7/07) gave the warning from the first winter on, whenever temps dropped into the 30's. It sat for the last 10 months, and the bike batt died, (of course), but a week ago when I spoke to the dealership and asked about the sensors/warranty, they went to bat for me, and got them in in a couple days, surprisingly the sensor batteries "recharged" somewhat, and didn't show error when I took it in, but they replaced them anyways....nice folks. ;)

Patience is not a virtue of mine, and not making sensors that are designed to have the batteries replaced easily is a total scam in my eyes.
-
I agree with Poke. This could have been engineered a bit better.

pu$$y
beer and Oxycontin works wonders..... ;)
just don't drink and take drugs that have acetamenophen in them.....that'll cause liver failure........ :P ??? ;D

That's what I told him...
-
Beer and Oxi does work really well together. Sometimes a little too good.
We buried my brother a year and a half ago from mixing the two. The coroner told me it amounted to two Percodan and four drinks. Apparently mixing the two USUALLY works just fine, but sometimes your brain forgets to tell the lungs to work.
Good news, though, is some life insurance policies pay double for an accident.Your family will be able to get than new, 2013 c14...Double up on either, hell, quadruple either and you'll be ok. Mixing is dangerous, though. I know you guys are joking, and I get that, but please, what the experts say really is true. My brother was a big, strong, 38 year old tough guy. He had a masters degree and spent his spare time on the prison swat team.
-
Buzz killer.

Oxy is bad stuff, I prefer Percocet.

UH.... Do you know what you are taking?
Percocet is Oxy + acetaminophen.....

::)
damn stoners anyways.... :'(
all kidding aside, I WAS joking about taking pain meds and drinking.
Sorry to hear about your Bro RC409, I have no idea what strength meds he took, but normal prescriptions are usually in the lower dose levels.... and to be honest that mixture, if a first time scenario, should have never been fatal to a strong adult male.
anyway, as I note, Mixing percocet or Vicoden with alcohol is a sure way to cause a surprisingly fatal Liver failure......
It's a shame the med companies have to "add" the dangerous benign drug to a potent pain medication, simply to cause more problems if they are abused.... :(
Kinda like adding a small dose of rat poison to it, and telling you if you abuse it it will kill you.... ::) ::) ::)
-
They told us several times that his does was not enough to kill someone, or should not have been. For me, that was the scary part. I've done the mixing on more than one occasion, and liked the result. The Coroner used the word "unpredictable" a lot.
He had a recent shoulder surgery that could have contributed.
-
My wife is an ER nurse, I listen to her because she knows a helluva lot more than I do. Oxy is the most addicting narc for a reason, has ruined many a persons life due to addiction. I have already cut my narc usage in half since surgery, cause I be a tough sum bitch. ;D

Right....

There's a lot of people having problems with the sensor, as I am. Tomorrow, I'll travel 820 km to change it. Kawa should seriously consideres to modify the sensor and gives us a new good one.
-
My rear sensor started acting up yesterday. I have about 2k on the back tire so I'm going to deal with it until I need another tire, probably in spring. I did find out how to turn off the warning from taking over the display (press and hold the top button, press the bottom button and release, release the top button).
Yesterday it came on with temps in the upper 40's, went off about 10 minutes into my ride, stayed off. Came on when I restarted the bike, temp in the low 50's.

As of today, I've hit 3 different dealers regarding replacing sensors on a 2008 as a 5 year warrenty item as mentioned here. All three looked at me like I had 3 heads. What gives? Has anyone had this done anywhere near the Fredericksburg VA area?
BTW- I've tried Coleman's in Woodbridge, the dealer in Locust Grove (I forget the name) and today, Ultimate Cycles in Richmond.

My dealer replaced mine on my '08 earlier this year and didn't bat an eye.

Village Motor Sports? How did they react specifically? I've had them do a valve check and they did that well. Ultimate Cycles should know about this. Ping me off line if you want.

No surprise there........
-
Had both mine replaced on my '11, intermittent warnings one time it would be for the front, next time for the rear.
I like the tire pressure sensor idea, but this is really just **** poor sticking these weak batteries in them from the manufacturer and pushing it off on the customer and dealer to sort it out.

Yes, Village Motorsports. I stopped by there a couple months ago and spoke to the service manager who seemed to be very sceptical about it.
I spoke to a sevice guy at Ultimate today and even showed him a copy of the Kawasaki bulletin where it states the life expectancy is 5 years. He said he'd check on it, but I have my doubts that he really will. I heard that Ultimate's service manager rides a C=14, so I thought they'd be up on that.

ok, re-call Ultimate, and talk to Pete Danials, the owner....tell him you spoke with me here, online, on the COG website, give him my name...Rich Riczinger, tell him to call me (he has my number...) and tell him I told you that there is a specific issue with first year bikes, and if you have an extended warrenty (you do have one don't you??), these are covered.
I don't think there will be an issue after that. ;)
they have always done well with me, and are the folks that stepped up and offered reduced price GTPP to all of us, Pete will do what he can, and tell the service manger to hook this up.
be positive, polite, and by all means dilligent....it will be taken care of.
I just had mine replaced by a dealership here in Ohio, on a walk in basis, with my extended warrenty, without question.
Pete WILL do the same.
-
I just took my 09 to my dealership in Orlando, FL the other day because I got the warning for the front. They looked at it, got approval from Kawasaki to replace it under warranty, and ordered the part. I picked up the bike and they will call me next week when it comes in to replace it. And this is under the standard 36 month warranty.
-
My '08 is out of warranty. The forums have been saying that there is a separate 5 year warranty on the sensors and dealers have been replacing them. The issue stems from a Kawasaki bulletin to dealers that states the sensors have a 5 year life. I have a copy of that bulletin and even showed it at Ultimate Cycles yesterday. They were still skeptical. The service guy said he'd "check on it". He didn't sound that enthusiastic, so that translates to me that he'll not bother to call the rep and will just deny it.
-
I'm going to Village to get a valve adjust, throttle sync, and replace the plugs. I have a problem with the sensors and my shift sensor is starting to misbehave. I have the brake recall to do as well. We'll see where it goes.

WOW....I wasn't realizing you have NO current warranty....

I had to assume (bad on my part) you had an extended warranty.....
now, to be quite clear, all this b/s going around "the forums" is just that, b/s.....
No dealer is going to replace them for free, 5 years life or not, if you don't have a warranty....that's what the warranty was meant for.... ::) sorry to hear your actual dillemma, but I don't think anyone is gonna install them for free.
best of luck
-
I've only had the bike since last March. the previous owner let the warranty run out. I've had a feeling all along that whoever posted that the sensors were under a 5 year warranty was mistaken. The bulletin says the sensors are "rated for 5 years", but does NOT say anything about a warranty. It was either here or the other board that the original post was made. I'll try and find that original post.
-
Found it! This is the thread.

"Rated" for 5 years means nothing, and if you don't have a good dealer relationship, most of us are out of luck.
-
So........I'll officially run up the Bullshit flag on that thread. Just as I originally suspected.

Sorry for being a downer in the thread. I KNOW you guys were joking, playing, etc, and I went to the next level. Again, sorry for that.
The feeling I had the morning when I found my brother dead, messed me up to say the least, and I'll never be the same. In ways, I'm more compassionate. In others, well, seeing the person I loved most in the world, dead, did me in. I see him in my dreams, when in a busy store, as I go to sleep. I doubt there is 5 minutes per day I do without thinking of him.
So. sorry for coming on so strong, please forgive me. I really like you guys, and this felt like a comfortable place to vomit up some of this stuff.
BUT, he was in Halloween 4, Season of the witch! Hes running security for the guy who is running the control panel tha tis lettign Mike Meyers out of the "asylum" The utah state prison, in reality.
These pressure sensors suck, though, and I wish they were up Mr Kawasaki's ass.

If you feel like you need to talk about it here, there's nothing wrong with that.
-
And our rates are reasonable.
I think about my Dad and Mom every day. Dad died in '69 and Mom just last year. It affects everyone. Sometimes you have good and bad days. But we're always here to listen.

No need to explain anything, and I can only imagine how hard that is. And as for shoving the sensors up Mr. Kawasaki's ass, I would be all for that.

+10 FOR THE SENSOR SHOVING... as for being able to vent, and gain closure, we are all her for that also, we are very caring and compasionate, and feel all the feelings you feel, but I for one am sorry to have taken the original thread off course..... lets let it run, and feel free to share the feeelings on the open forum. Don't hold back man, I know you feel pain, and sorry to scratch a sore spot.
sorry for the highjack, and I do feel your sorrow for your bro,, sincerely. ;)

You guys are amazing.Flat out amazing. The support and kindness means the world to me. Its things like that which have allowed me to get out of bed in the morning on the days I wished I could have stayed there. I knwo a lot of folks have had worse happen to them, so I try to keep that in perspective. Thank you ugys more thna you'll ever know.
Oh, I've been driving my Moms 2004 Jeep Liberty thsi week. It just turned over 10,000 miles..yes, 10k. TPS works just fine. The original sensors.
