Title: Progressive Ins. SUCKS
Post by: gPink on February 06, 2012, 02:31:55 PM
2011-3 bikes liability only,2008 concours full coverage, 2 drivers listed= $644
2012-1 bike 2008 concours, 1 driver listed=$603
No accidents/no tickets
I was told it was due to the loss of the multi-bike discount. I told them to cancel the bike and the van and the truck. From them "I'm sorry you feel that way,Sir."

Progressive for me was cheaper than State Farm. Just had a comp claim from hitting a raccoon. I had a check in my hands less than 48 hours.

I'd rate Progressive as excellent.

My Progressive premium is 360.00, one bike full coverage (2009 C14). I hear it's different state to state.

I did recieve a discount for having ABS, I've never had a motorcycle safty course so that would have been another discount.

one bike, full coverage. '08 C14.

State Farm = ~$400
slightly better coverage with Allstate = ~$200

Those rates are for 12 months

I've been with State Farm forever, I still have my home and 3 other vehicles with them.

I hear it's different state to state.

And zip code to zip code.

When I was shopping for insurance I was noticing how much uninsured/under insured coverage is for a bike vs. the almost insignificant
amount charged for a car. It seemed very odd at first. Then I thought that there must be quite a few that have single
vehicle accidents and then blame some phantom hit and run car so that they can get their bike fixed almost for free? If
that's not the case then I don't get it.
I have USAA insurance on home and other vehicles. They recommended Progressive for my bikes. I checked
prices and Progressive seemed to be competitive at the time, so I went with them. When I renewed, I'll admit I didn't check prices again
like I should have.  :-[

In my opening post I'll add that my uninsured motorist went from $16(4 bikes) to $56(1bike).

It's been a while since I looked at this, but my uninsured was much much higher, but I'm getting old
maybe I'm at the point where my memory has become my creative outlet?  :-\
I'll check and get back to this.

I had Progressive on my C10, and nobody could match the premium. For the C14 they were competitive, but found that Foremost had the best rate, and i got it through my friend who's an Ins. agent. I'm in VA.

OK, I'm back. Sure enough I was misremembering. I was remembering a quote I got from Dairyland Cycle insurance that was at least $150 higher than progressive a year ago. The major difference in the quotes was for the uninsured part of the policies.
Attached is what I'm paying now. Maybe if we all start posting what we are paying this can turn into the intensity of an oil thread  :o
and end up with a group insurance buy that will save us all a lot of money???  8)  (yeah, I know, dream on  ::) )

(for comparison purposes, I'm in Fort Worth Texas, no tickets, no accidents,no claims, MSF course 18 months ago, 10+ years motorcycle exp.)

I'm paying $60.78 for a 12 month policy on my 2002 C10. I have liability only and this is in Florida.

No accidents and no tickets. I have Allstate. This also includes towing.

I went with Progressive on my two street bikes and dirt bike. All have full coverage and 100 deductible.  319.00 per year.  We ended up switching over our cars after the motorcycle quote was so reasonable.  I believe they are looking to insure only a small segment and price the other people out.

I guess I'm part of "the other people"

Well, Im a happy Progressive customer.

There are lots of factors, and quite a few people dont check, they just get whatever the agent recommends.
Mine, full coverage, with comprehensive (if I drop it, or it falls over, its covered), with a $250 deductible, on my 95 Connie is roughly $216/yr.
No accidents and no tickets.  No other vehicles at all insured with Progressive either.

Of course people say that all the time about tickets/accidents, and Ive found that some forget about tickets, or dont realize how far back their insurance goes.
Some others still dont realize that their credit rating plays a role in the insurance cost too.
What state you live in makes a difference too....were I in Michigan instead of Indiana, Id bet Id be paying more than double what I am now...

Lots of factors, but if you feel like you are paying too much, there are WAY too many options to stick with that company.

Progressive full coverage 2009 C14 $673

Foremost Ins Same bike same coverage $389

This post made me decide to get a quote from Foremost just to check how it would work for me.
It was $42 cheaper, and I don't know if Progressive might go lower when renewal time comes around.
I'll check again then, but I doubt I would leave Progressive to save $42.

You're right there. I didn't even know what my credit rating was until recently when we bought a new car. Our salesman said that he's never seen anyone with a score as high as mine before.

I've heard the same thing.  Unfortunately Progressive and others look at those scores.  My auto insurance with them moved up a few dollars because I bought some items on credit.  I paid them off within a year but the affect lingers on.  And here I thought I was helping the economy...  I hate the Man.
