Title: Droopy Mirror Fix
Post by: wildwilly on June 26, 2011, 05:05:57 PM
Copied this from the old site.  This fix has been around for a long time.  If I knew who to give credit to, I would.  Feel free to chime in:

1) Using an Exacto knife or razor blade with a clean and sharp edge, cut a 2" slit in the valley on the underside of the ribbed rubber bellows,  4th rib from the fairing (inboard) side.

2) Pry off plastic cap covering 10mm nut to mirror stalk.  Tighten nut till mirror is snug (careful not to overdo it here).

3) (Optional) you can reseal the slit with rubber cement or superglue.

I'll put up pics if I can find some.

I took mine (95 model) apart, worked my way around the seam in the plastic case, started with a razor blade, then up to a thin piece of alum i had laying around.   got it apart, just like you would do to replace the glass.       After i tighened up the bolt, i put just a little touch of cement on the plastic case and reassembled.
Been several years ago, still no droop.

I'm not saying this is the best way, but it worked for me.  It didnt occur to me at the time to slit the rubber.
Patience required but now you cant see any evidence that it was ever taken apart.
Good luck to ye.
