I used to work in an industrial cleaning field.  Using various chemicals to clean heat exchangers, piping, boilers, powerplants etc. etc. etc.  We use sodium bicarb to media blast quite often.  I could take the pant off of a pepsi can and leave the can unmarred.  It really is handy stuff.  By the way, there is no odor absorbancy limit to it so no need to replace that container in your fridge every month.
