Title: 2300 miles in two days of riding and ......
Post by: Jeremy Mitchell on August 18, 2011, 07:07:09 AM
I had zero problems with my C14.  No KiPass issues, no [pinned] bags flying off, even though they were severely overloaded.  I also got an average fuel mileage of 42 mpg with a high of 48 and a low of 39 (WV mountain roads are fun).  I will be working on a "ride report" and should have it posted today or tomorrow complete with pics and hopefully an entertaining (you be the judge) story.  This wasn't a vacation, this was an adventure and a chance to say my final goodbye to a great friend.  Stay tuned...........

Very impressive J., I hope you'll be ready to ride the Ozarks the weekend of October 15. The guys coming up from Texas are wanting to camp  :yikes: but I have a feeling we will be at the red roof inn at Branson (it's cheap and next door to the steak house). Glad you had a safe and fun trip.

What about your wrists and ass?  My seat is very comfortable up to about 100 miles.  Then past that it becomes horribly uncomfortable.  500 in a day seems to be about my limit. That is impressive.

Very impressive.  Sorry for your loss.  I just got back from a 1200 mile trip to Canada which was awesome but we did it three days.

I told you you'd like the WV roads.  That's typically where I head off to for a day's ride.

I'll let Jeremy tell the story, but I have to say he got a taste of almost every sort of riding on his trip.  He battled DC traffic, got a little wet, got a little lost, some twisties, and a lot of slab.

indeed, very impressive. I've been myself to Dubrovnik, Croatia (from Munich, Germany) this past weekend and did 2700 km (1700 miles) in four days, and didn't experience one glitch of any kind. Bags stayed put, KI-PASS did its duty, bike ate miles like I ate insects. And it managed 43 mpg average, with a 48 peak. On a '08 model. But you achieved more distance in half the time. Respect  :hail:

And for you US-Americans complaining about oil prices, I was happily paying 7 USD/gal instead of the usual 9,2 USD/gal that I pay in Germany.

PD: I know about your friend, saw the news. Sorry for your loss...

That is a lot in two days, I did a little over 1800 the last two days of my Alaska trip and that was my limit. I was crossing the southeren US in triple digit temps and parked both days for a few hours in the afternoon and rode late into the evening. I still don't think I could make 2300 that is a lot.

Not sure about "platinum ass",  "dumb ass" sounds more like it.  I did sleep when I was tired but I pushed to far on my return trip and I could have very easily made a dumb mistake while I was on hwy 50 in WV.  Those roads were so great I just felt like I had to keep going, but I turned my speed down a notch or two since I knew I was tired and I was wearing "holy" jeans instead of riding pants.  I just took my wife for a 200 mile ride today and had a blast in the twisties knowing that I would be off the bike before I even burned through an entire tank of fuel.   ;D

My hat is off to you as well.  I haven't heard your story, but I am looking forward to reading your write up.  I don't know how you guys can do miles like that.  I have Spencer's seat mod, and WOW that helped a bunch.  It's not my a$$ though, my body just says no!  My back and legs just won't cooperate.  I recently returned from 4 weeks, averaging 400-500 (mostly 400) miles a day.  I found myself frequently letting my legs 'hang', and the wind would  sort of hold them up.  Not smart I know, but it's what you do to what you do!
