Price check.... ducati scrambler
« on: March 16, 2017, 07:52:19 AM »
Best laid plans sometimes don't materialize. After selling my fat boy three years back, I planned on adding a lighter bike. But it just never happened...until now. So in question is a 2015 ducati scrambler full throttle. Dealer is asking 9500 otd. But there is a 2017 in another dealer for 10500. Question is....should the 2015 be just 1000 less? The bikes are identical with 0 miles. Also a bit uncomfortable buying without test ride. But my research and sitting on it seems to be a fit.
C14 will of course stay.

I'm always surprised by hearing about no test ride. Every dealer I've ever visited in both Colorado and Texas offer test rides. I've had at least 4 offer a test ride when I wasn't even asking for one. I was just tire kicking and have had salesman tell me to take it out for a spin. Not to mention numerous rides from factory demo trucks including Ducati.

On to your question, for a $1000 I'd take the 2 year newer model. It would be worth it in resale. That said, you might have more luck negotiating for the 2015. I was just in this exact predicament last month on a Multistrada 1200 S Touring. They had a 2015 with about 6k of options on it with 3600 miles. I was able to negotiate 2k off the asking. Almost 4k below the list of the 2017 without the options.

So the 2017 otd is actually 11595. The hidden fees were nicely 'hidden'. That dealer does allow demo rides. And they also have a 2016 demo for 8600. Decisions....decisions....

The 2017 dealer had another 2016 red Icon for $8700 otd. It was a demo model with 500 miles. He sweetened the deal with a race termi exhaust ($1300 value), but upped the price to only $9100 otd. So I just went with the red Icon. But at the end of the day, I took a hit on my pocket book - two new helmets, a different handlebar, a jacket for my wife....I just do not want to look at my credit card right now....

Congrats and enjoy the new bike. My 2015 Multi has the race Termi titanium exhaust. $2400 on the Multi. Makes the bike sound like a Harley that can rev to 10,000.  ;D

It's weird that I'm getting more Ducati talk on this forum than any of the Ducati forums. They seem to be dead.
