Triumph XC

Was all set to pick up a new Suzuki DR650 this weekend but the Triumph kept on nagging at me. I thought what the hell and emailed the dealer an offer thinking he would turn it down. Much to my surprise he accepted it then discovered there was a an additional $350 rebate for being retired military.
I pick up a matte green 2013 Triumph XC on Friday. I need this like I need a hole in my head, lol. Nice being old with the kids out of the house:). Now when my son visits he can ride either the Connie or the XC. This will be my first Triumph.

Picked up the bike around noon today and the first 40 miles were pretty sweet. Bike is the smoothest motorcycle I've ever owned outside of two Gold Wings and I owned more than my share of different bikes in my life.

I am 5'10, 225, 60 years old. Pleasantly shocked at how good the stock wind screen is. No buffeting at all and on a scale of 1-10 would rate it a 9. Seat is pretty good, time will tell. Besides the normal body armor and luggage accessories the only thing I want to do soon is to add the Rox riser to the handlebars and swap out the front sprocket for a 15 tooth. First gear is to tall, period. Other than that I really like the bike. Dash is a little complicated but that should improve as I remember which button to push.

Only 800 miles on the bike so just a quick update. The bike is absolutely deceiving as far as power and quickness. Amazing how smooth it is and how linear the power delivery is.
So far I have averaged just a shade over 58 mpg since buying it and she doesn't get babied.

The Triumph dealer in Tyler Texas had 1 leftover 2011 Tiger XC for < $10K OTD. and 2 2012s for just a bit more. They also had 2 2011 Tigers 1050s on the cheap.

sorry for the silly question but: is it the 800 cc? I'm not versed on Triumphs, but I drove the 800 (competition to the BMW 800GS parallel twin) and like it a lot. I just don't remember what it is called

Yup it is the 800, and the XC is the more off road worthy of the 2 800's. The 800 triple is an absolute rocket compared to the BMW offerings, well except for the new 1200GS.

I don't know. Yes, the XC seems stronger, but at higher revs. Anyway, that 3-cyl engine is sweeeeeeet.

Basically the differences between the two is the XC has spoked wheels. For serious off road use I think the XC needs a smaller front sprocket. This would give you the ability to run at lower speeds without slipping the clutch.

The most amazing feature about these bikes (IMO) is the power and fuel consumption. Only 150 cc's more than a KLR yet almost triple the HP. My last KLR averaged 55 mpg over the course of a summer and the 800 is even better. They are a legit 12 second 1/4 ride which is about as fast as you can go in a light weight bike without worrying about bringing the front end up every time you wack the throttle open.
