Speedo gear help
« on: October 22, 2014, 05:37:51 AM »
Here in California temps are getting a little cold in the morning and the infamous speedo gear squeal is back, it goes away after it warms up or 5-10 miles.

will the gear break and cause me to crash?

i don't mind replacing it, i just don't want to til i have to but if it can cause a crash then i will do it now.

PS... it's been doing this every winter for about 6 years.

No it will not break and cause you to crash.... BUT if you care to take the time to remove it from the bike and wash it out with the likes of brake clean to remove the old dirty nasty grease then re-grease it with some white lithium spray grease it while take at least another 20 years to start making noise again.....

Well thats good to know, Thanks

is there any tips on how to go about this procedure, it seems easy but i have never taken off the front wheel, i let the shop change tires and wheel bearings. is there anything else i should look for that might need attention while the wheel is off?

i replaced the speedo cable about a year ago.
