Title: Runs like **** .......Don't overlook the air filter.
Post by: syntor on May 14, 2011, 09:38:20 PM
Went for a run along the freeway today and Connie did not want to rev.
Has been fine pottering around town and I couldn't really think what the problem was, anyway, after getting home I cleaned the air filter.
Bingo problem solved!

The book says clean the air filter every 12,000 km, well I reckon that might be alright wherever they wrote the book, but in these parts we have DUST and DIRT.

I guess the upside is that it means the filter is filtering, and not just letting the crud pass through.

I have an 06 Pontiac Solstice.  Started running rough last week.  Pulled the air cleaner yesterday and it was filthy.  I splurged for a new filter.  Runs great.

Then I cleaned the filters in my C14, Rubicon and CRV, lawnmowers, leaf blowers, chainsaws, etc.

I can't believe I have neglected such simple maintenance

I cleaned my K&N filter last week. Had only done 6k miles on it, it looked clean but I thought what the hell and cleaned it anyway.

Now my stumble is back at very light throttle openings  ??? In my case, dirtier appears to have been better as it made the engine run slightly richer.

And no, I didn't over-oil the filter. :(

Dr. MOB says.....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
kinda like a 2 minute mod thing when Steve asked everyone to block the airbox....

so, what this is telling you is that the low speed circuits are not operating correctly, and maybe some of those small holes, the leading most ones in the carb throat, are not really clean. More airflow without more fuel flow tends to have that effect, and when you open the throttle further, you get fuel from other orifices in that group, but you still need them ALL clean and operating.

good posting!!! you just anylized (cause/effect) what we carb guys try to explain daily!!!
