Hey everybody, way, way, way cool news. I've known for a couple of weeks but haven't been able to post anything until it went live on the Kawasaki website.
http://www.kawasaki.com/zerotohero/ (http://www.kawasaki.com/zerotohero/)
Click on the "Click here to vote" button, and please vote for me! Individuals can vote once per day, so please help me out and maybe I'll get to race Rickey! I realize I'm a 'newer' guy around this site, but figured I should cast nets as wide as I can to try and garner votes for the public voting phase. For those of you who haven't seen enough of my posts to pick me out of the lineup, I'm the Army Major on the lower left (James M).
-
link don't work
-
Link has been fixed. Apparently the forum software doesn't like sending off http addresses with capital letters...
-
I cast a vote your way but you might have a hard time against the Hottie. :)
-
Done!! Represent lean and green, Go Army, beat dat hottie ;D
-
Top 4 make it and you can vote once daily until 15 April, so I'll I've got to do is beat out the bottom 4...
-
You got my vote James.
-
Done.
-
I had to wrestle hard to stop my mouse from wandering over to the hottie. I barely won this time.
-
Daily 'please vote for me again today' thread bump... I'm pretty sure 'Ms Slick Wicked' is going to make the top 4, I just need to beat out the bottom 4 so I get to go to Vegas and try and beat her on the bike.
-
Vote for the day done ;D
-
Voted, keep bumping it daily.
-
Got my vote Sir! Hooah!
(Gonna have a hard time getting ahead of that babe though) ;D
-
Awesome! I just voted for ya!
-
Done....
-
The site was screwed up overnight, but is back up! Daily bump, vote early, vote often! I'm going to hit up a local bike night tonight and try and drum up more support!
Edited to add link so you don't have to scroll back to the top:

I voted for ya again buts its pretty clear Angie will get the most votes.

Got my vote. It was hard to read the code to submit the vote.
-
you got my vote.....It was a hard decision though. Angie Y is better looking and more than likely smells better. :o
-
Angie probably does smell better, I just need a chance to get to the track and mask all that nonsense with some tire smoke! Gotta make the top 4, thus my daily reminder bumps:
http://www.kawasaki.com/zerotohero/ (http://www.kawasaki.com/zerotohero/)
I made up some flyers and dropped a bunch by one of the local bike shops at bike night yesterday, and will swing by two more today. I'm still working to try and get the word out on the Army side of the house, it's a little harder because of the ethics rules (can't get it on the Army facebook page because it endorses a commercial product...) Having to beat the bushes and get it out word-of-mouth style.
-
Done.
-
Voted fer ya again. Good luck to ya.....
Keep bumping this post so others will see it.
Ruide safe, Ted
-
Is there some way that you can put out your request to the American Legion or VFW? Good Luck
-
Is there some way that you can put out your request to the American Legion or VFW? Good Luck
Ooooh!!! Hadn't thought of that since I was so focused on the active side angles... definitely going to swing by there this week!!!
-
Get yer staff together, hold some data entry class, kinda like a train the trainer, once the staff is trained they train up their soldiers ;D
Votes in, 2-4 is getting tight, looks like the hottie is a sure thing, well, probably not ;)
-
I voted for ya again. Of course you know, if you get in we expect the inside scoop. Win or loose we want pics and stories. 8)
-
I just voted for you again. Don't forget we'll be needing some pics of the Kawasaki girls!
-
I have a GOOD camera, and one of my wife's friends from Vegas is a semi-pro photog with even better photo gear. Plus, he's a GUY, so I'm sure passing that specific request along won't get lost in translation... Consider it on the 'to-do' list for when I get there! Thanks for the votes everybody, keep 'em coming! The east-coast guys catch up a little in the mornings, but I've been consistently gaining steam each day in the afternoons, so keep at it! Thanks!!!
-
Hey guys, daily bump to beg for votes here. I'm steadily gaining traction, and hopefully I can get the word out around post this week and get the ball really rolling.
Since I can't really say it enough, but can try... THANK YOU ALL!!!
-
Did my daily vote. Looking good in 2nd place but 2-5 still too close to call.
-
Just voted again. Hope you make it!
-
Same with me. Good luck
x4......
Ted
-
Sent my vote...good luck.
-
Thanks again, I'm going to keep saying it because I really can't say it enough! You guys are all awesome! Daily votes are helping me stay solidly in 2nd place, and I think if I can get the word out on post I might have a shot at closing a little on the 1st place spot. Tall order, but just like bracket racing, consistency is key!
-
I would be willing to post this on BARF, Bay Area Riders Forum, but I'm worried it would backfire and most would vote for hot girl. I better not.
-

No doubt Angie will get the most votes. Galaxieman just has to beat the other guys. Looking good so far.
-
Looks like Robert from Florida has been out hitting the bricks... he moved up to 2nd place overnight! Please remember you can vote daily! With spots 2-5 still this close, I really need your help! That said, I got a reminder email from the sweepstakes folks that said the following:
“Each Valid Entry may be voted on by the general public, including by each Participant; however, a person may submit only one (1) vote per day per person and/or per IP address during the Public Voting Phase.”
In layman's terms, it means you can vote once daily, and each person is limited to one vote daily, also restricted by computer. If you're voting, and you can get your wife/gf/so to vote as well, they have to use a different computer, and if you have multiple computers/email addresses, you can still only vote once. I think they sent it because someone's voting support may have been violating that and votes weren't counting. PLEASE vote, and please ask your friends and family to vote!
-
FYI, I've been voting for you twice a day. Once from my home, using my other e-mail addy, and once from work, using my work addy.
I hate that freakin code that they make you enter. I can never see it right the first time.

Great idea ;D
Time to vote again, I feel so ACORN like ;)
-
I think I have voted 5 times, hopefully you make it into the the finals. The lady might get more votes, but unless she has been schooled by Angelle Savoie then she will probably get smoked in the competition. ;D
Good luck!
-
Another vote for you today!

Great idea ;D

We're all lucky there aren't any Chicago-area semi-finalists, the voting could get ugly...
Vote early, vote often!

'We're all lucky'? You mean you don't ya? ;)
I just voted for you again, you're in trouble it looks like.

No I think he's got this. He doesn't have to win the vote, just the top 4. But yes, vote early and vote often to keep him in the top 4.
-
Oh, top 4 eh? Yeah, he's got it.
-
'We're all lucky'? You mean you don't ya? ;)
Indirectly me, but all of the semi-finalists...
It might be kinda hard to establish percentage ranking amongst the other 7 if one person had a couple million votes 'stuffed' in their electronic box ;)
Thanks again for all the votes guys!

18 more days... thanks for the votes, and please keep voting!
-
I know this is a long haul guys, please keep voting! Watching the points swing around each day, I know the other semi-finalists (well most of them...) are out working to expand their voter base... I'm still at it, and have more stops for flyer-handouts this weekend! Thanks for the votes, keep 'em coming!
-
I've been good for 2 a day, looking forward to your race results :)
-
Hard launched the Concours yesterday after pulling over to get out the cleaning supplies and get a giant nasty bug splatter out of my field of view on the visor... Our bikes are not exactly a slouch off the line. The 14R is in a different league altogether though, so I will definitely be all ears and try to soak up as much knowledge as I can during the race class. This is one of those cases where I'd definitely rather be lucky than good however... Gonna need a little luck!
Don't forget to vote again today!
-
Done.

Voted twice.

Daily reminder bump... A bit over two weeks left. Going to promo the trackday we're doing next month to the Soldiers at right-arm night (monthly 'rub elbows with the brass' event), so definitely going to be tossing the voting bit out as much as possible there...
-

James,
Consider posting over to this Kawasaki board because it seems used more by international owners. And I have not seen your competition posting over there. More of a clear field. :-)
http://www.kawasakimotorcycle.org/forum/kawasaki-touring-sport-touring/ (http://www.kawasakimotorcycle.org/forum/kawasaki-touring-sport-touring/)
-
I posted in the sport touring forum over there, and even though Shawn E's brother had already posted in the main forum, I went ahead and threw in there as well. I think Shawn's one of the best of the other candidates, but I've gotta keep getting the votes! Thanks for the suggestion, and keep up the great work voting!
-
Hey everybody, another weekend closer to the end of voting. Votes still count on Saturdays and Sundays, so please keep it up! I talked to a bunch of Soldiers at Right-Arm night last night (monthly 'rub elbows with the brass' event on post), so hopefully that'll help spread the word. The MWR rep that was there talking to me while I was setting up reminded me of where a couple of bulletin board that get lots of foot traffic are, that I either didn't know about, or had forgotten about. Definitely going to post flyers there!
-
Looking better, cut into the hotties # and slight gain on the guy in third. Time to visit the dealer for a test ride on a ZX, eh?
-
They had 14Rs available for test rides this weekend in Phoenix, but we did stuff for my wife's birthday (since she teaches at night school so we can't do it during the week...). I have ridden a ZX-14, so I realize it'll be faster, but shouldn't be frighteningly so. Two more weeks of public voting, and I've managed to pull back into 2nd place. I know this thanks in large part to my 'forum families' who I bug every day about it. Thanks for voting, I can't really even say thank you enough. Keep the votes coming!
-
I'm getting into this habit pattern: get up, make coffee, hit facebook, read forums and ask for votes... and today I ran across another 'rider down' thread involving a drunk driver. Whatever you ride, stay safe. Part of why I even submitted the essay in the first place was to try and promote motorcycle safety: "Wait, encouraging guys to go faster makes them safer? Huh?" Some leaders have forgotten that leading from the front works at home as well as it did downrange. And then you see stuff like that, and it pisses you off. Didn't know the man, but he was still in my 2-wheeled brotherhood. F*ck drunk drivers.

Where was this story posted?
-
Over on the Superhawk Forum. Link here (http://www.fox17.com/newsroom/top_stories/videos/wztv_vid_11649.shtml) to a news release on the accident. Last line makes me hopeful that at least some justice will be served.

Bump for daily reminder ;D
-
Everyone keep voting!!
I just Voted again.
Had an idea and Sent list to several other Buddies and asked them to help.
If he wins,,, lets ask him to lend us his NEW bike. <evil grin>
Ride safe, Ted
-
Hey guys, thanks for all the votes, please keep 'em coming! I voted this morning and Robert P's % dropped to 16%, which means he's got to be floating around the 16.49% range... I haven't seen mine drop from 17% in a couple of days. Please keep it up, every vote counts, and votes now are harder to make up down the stretch (when there are fewer days left). You guys are awesome!
-
It took a bit of lead time, but the article the PAO and I have been working on got published today. Check out page 1B (page 15 of 20 in the file) at the link below, it's the PDF version of the Fort paper:
http://www.aerotechnews.com/forthuachuca/files/publications/fhs_04052012A20.pdf (http://www.aerotechnews.com/forthuachuca/files/publications/fhs_04052012A20.pdf)
And I'm covered for the Zero to Hero plug because "This newspaper is an authorized publication for members of the U.S. Army. Contents of The Fort Huachuca Scout are not necessarily the official views of, or endorsed by the U.S. Government, Department of Defense, Department of Army or the U.S. Army Intelligence Center of Excellence and Fort Huachuca."
-
Great article Jim, we need more mentors like you in the military community.
-
Thanks. I've had a couple of pretty good riding mentors over the years, but the active duty ones have since retired. Which means that I've got to step up now. Over on BeginnerBikers.org, I've gone from a brand newbie who quickly became 'one of those statistics' (wreck with <1 year experience on that bike), to one of the 'wizened old dudes'. I'm not the bobble-headed 2LT like I met last Friday anymore... I'm someone he looks up to. That still completely weirds me out. Not a professional, but I have an officially sanctioned race license... never would have thought that would happen 11 years ago when I started riding. And I still think I'm slow and don't know enough...
Thanks for the votes guys. Just over a week left, so keep them coming!
-
Two things:
1. If you have read the rules, you know that the Public Vote only counts for 20% of the selection criteria. So they can pick whoever they want to at the end of the voting anyway.
2. I did not see a reply to the "double vote" post. Grounds for removal of votes at least. An honest man should reject this kind of "support". You just lost my vote, Major.
//
FYI, I've been voting for you twice a day. Once from my home, using my other e-mail addy, and once from work, using my work addy.
//
-
Any idea why Kawasaki may like the double vote thing? Advertisement is doubled. Does anyone think this contest is on the level of say the olympics? Do you see anything positive about what Jim is doing for our young soldiers?
Why the negativity? From where I sit it reeks of a typical mud slinging effort. Quick question, are you supporting one of the other candidates, or maybe you are one of the other candidates?
-
Sending in my vote again today,,,,,,
In my opinion, regardless of which bike he rides, which reason he has to be a contestant, regardless of anything else.
He's a member of the Military Force that is out there protecting us.
"All" of them deserve our gratitude.
In this case we have a chance to show our gratitude... Lets help him win!!!!
Ride safe, Ted

datsaxman, let me reference a post from early in this thread:
...That said, I got a reminder email from the sweepstakes folks that said the following:
The reason I posted it was to note the IP restriction for people who have multiple family members, but may have been trying to vote on the same machine. I had to explain to my parents that dad can vote from his computer, but that means that mom has to vote from her computer, since the IP address for dad's machine has already been used to submit a vote that day.
I fully understand that the sweepstakes company running the contest for Kawasaki would be completely justified within the rules to not count double votes. The 'vote early, vote often' thing I have posted on a couple of sites and my facebook page, is a vague reference to the Chicago-style multiple votes system this contest is set up under. From a $ cost perspective, having their 8 semi-finalists essentially pimping Kawasaki on the web (facebook, forums, etc) is a brilliant use of what is nearly free labor. I also understand that they may disqualify someone who were to attempt to defraud the voting system. Plus, as you rightly noticed, 80% of the scoring to determine the 4 finalists does come from the Kawasaki judges. Generally speaking, it would not be in their best interests to not bring the clear leader in the public voting. However, the percentages being what they are, this gives them some leeway in selecting from amongst possible semi-finalists should there be a 'whole, rounded-off percentage point' tie at the end of the voting.
With that, I appreciate your support, though I cannot condone or request that anyone vote multiple times. If you'd reconsider, please continue voting, once per day until 14 April.
-
Another vote from me sir, and if you are up in Fort Leonard Wood the first beer is on me. I loved the article in Fort Huachuca paper. I wish there was a senior leader here that took the ball and ran like you have. So for now they will have to settle for me setting up a track day for Soldiers.
-
I can't say I'm really doing great stuff here at Huachuca, but I'm trying. I had no idea it was going to be written that way, but I"m really glad CSM Holiday's message this week was on Motorcycle safety, as it helps to double-tap the issue.
The race for 4th is really heating up... please keep voting and help keep me ahead of them! I think I'm a shade ahead of Robert P, but he eked his % back up to 17 this morning, so I need all the votes I can get. I'll be in class all week with limited internet access, so it'll be a quick 'please vote' thread bump, then I'm off to class... Thanks everyone for voting, I really can't say it enough!
-
I'm still voting for you daily.
-
Me too, Just sent mine in.
Ride safe, Ted
-
Thanks for the votes guys. 5 chances left until voting closes on Saturday, please keep it up!
-
Four more days, four more chances to vote. I'm still managing to run 2nd, but with the % swing some of the contestants have had in the last week, I need every vote I can get. Please keep it up! It takes less than 15 seconds to vote, so if you vote every day it's less than a minute of your time. Please click the link and vote for me! If you've got facebook, or co-workers who ride, or whatever... please tell everybody! The spelled out link below takes you directly there, but if you just tell them to go to the Kawasaki site... they pretty much can't miss the contest links all over that page. Thanks for your support!
http://www.kawasaki.com/zerotohero/ (http://www.kawasaki.com/zerotohero/)
-
BUMP for votes.
-
Major,
Appreciate your response. Semper Fi from my end of things.
Son of Pappy, your overactive imagination is fascinating. My post was a simple call for honesty.
YOUR post suggests that may be an unfamiliar or unexpected concept to you. Hope I am mistaken.
-
Useless banter for this thread.
Lets stick to supporting our forum member in this election.
-
Done !! Good Luck !!
-
This is closer then I expected. Only 2% separates 5th from 2nd. Keep voting!
-
And currently, 0% separates 2nd and 3rd! Eeek! I knew Shawn might catch me based on his meteoric rise over the last week, but I was hoping I'd have a little breathing room with two days left! Now I do realize I've been solid at 17% for a week, but I don't know if that's at 17.49%, or 16.50%... I'd assume not having moved down in a week that I've got a little padding above the 16.5% level, but have no way to be sure!
Vote, gets your co-workers to vote, get your (other) friends to vote, hit facebook... I knew the race would get a bit crazy at the end and that I just have to stay in the top 4, but with the last-minute flail I knew 2nd through 4th would dice it up a bit. Please vote and pass it along to others to do the same, just today and tomorrow left!!!

Looks like I should make the finalist list... I finished 2nd with 18% of the vote, and all of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th positions were gaining on the leader. I can't thank everyone enough for voting for me, you are all awesome!

I hope you have a great time and perform well on the strip. Good luck, sir!

You're welcome and enjoy. Should be a great time and learning experience!

Congrats, by the way.

Are those extended swing arms too?
Hmmm, looks ugly.

congrats! you'll have to give us a write up of your experience when you get done.

I bet those are set up for 1/4 mile.
The pic is from Ricky Gadson's Race school facebook page. Says they are setup for 8 sec 1/4. I don't think those are the ones for the Zero to Hero Challenge.

I thought that was Troy Polamalu... ??? :-\
-
Ok, let me rephrase this................I believe the guy to the left of Ricky Gadsen (in the white leathers since the
lady person in the black leathers is clearly Troy Polumalu's stunt double) is Galaxieman.
-
Have we heard from him since he was selected???
-
I think he is a little busy......
-
I got home last night around 11pm. I'm restricted from stating or implying anything about the outcome until after Kawasaki releases the results. They said that should happen as soon as today or tomorrow, but our confidentiality agreement runs beyond that in case they take longer. As such, I'll be working on my long-ass write-up of the event and editing pictures for the next couple of days. I will however post some pictures as I get to them in editing, and can say I made multiple sub-10-second passes in excess of 140mph. Additionally, they had a FUSE camera crew there filming for a show to be aired on SPEED TV some time in August or September, so my write-up will have to be somewhat limited until I see how everything shakes out in the final edits...
-
Welcome back Sir! I hope that you can tell us if you had fun or not?
-
Of course when you can start a new thread with the whole story but reply here with a linky.
