Title: Gun in the house
Post by: Bob Skinner on November 30, 2012, 05:16:29 PM
Received this as an email. Can't vouch for it being accurate.
"Do you have a gun in the house? Do you know how to answer?
Always answer "NO"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have a gun in the house?

When I had my gangrene gallbladder taken out and spent 10 days in the
hospital for what should have been an overnight stay the insurance company
kicked me out. I had home nurse visits for two weeks and was asked if I had
guns in the house. I respond that if I did I would not tell them. So the
below has some merit.

FYI, I am passing this along... there are comments from two other people I
have also been asked if we keep guns in the house. The nurse just kinda
slipped it in along with all the other regular questions. I told her I
refused to answer because it was against the law to ask.

Everyone, whether you have guns or not, should give a neutral answer so they
have no idea who does and who doesn't. My doctor asked me if I had guns in
my house and also if any were loaded. I, of course, answered yes to both
questions. Then he asked why I kept a loaded gun close to my bed. I answered
that my son, who is a certified gun instructor and also works for Homeland
Security, advised me that an unloaded, locked up gun is no protection
against criminal attack.

The Government now requires these questions be asked of people on Medicare,
and probably everyone else.

Just passing this along for your information: I had to visit a doctor other
than my regular doctor when my doctor was on vacation.. One of the questions
on the form I had to fill out was: Do you have any guns in your house?? My
answer was None of your damn business!!

So it is out there! It is either an insurance issue or government
intervention. Either way, it is out there and the second the government gets
into your medical records (as they want to under Obamacare) it will become a
major issue and will ultimately result in lock and load!!

Please pass this on to all the other retired guys and gun owners... Thanks.
From a Vietnam Vet and retired Police Officer: I had a doctors appointment
at the local VA clinic yesterday and found out something very interesting
that I would like to pass along. While going through triage before seeing
the doctor, I was asked at the end of the exam, three questions: 1. Did I
feel stressed? 2. Did I feel threatened? 3. Did I feel like doing harm to
someone?

The nurse then informed me that if I had answered yes to any of the
questions I would have lost my concealed carry permit as it would have gone
into my medical records and the VA would have reported it to Homeland
Security.

Looks like they are going after the vets first. Other gun people like
retired law enforcement will probably be next. Then when they go after the
civilians, what argument will they have? Be forewarned and be aware. The
Obama administration has gone on record as considering veterans and gun
owners potential terrorists. Whether you are a gun owner, veteran or not,
YOU'VE BEEN WARNED !

If you know veterans and gun owners, please pass this on to them. Be very
cautious about what you say and to whom.

They are coming for us, so unless you're an ostrich, do not stick your head
in the sand."

On matters such as this I don't know that I would trust Snops too much. They bend over backwards pretty far to the Left.

Just did a web search. It is happening. Florida passed a low prohibiting doctors from asking that question and a Federal judge blocked it.
Alabama had a similar measure pending at that time, Feb 2011.
Kids, that's two years ago.
Just found an article on the subject by Michelle Malkin from 2008. It mentioned an effort by Durham county and Duke university. Yes, the gubmint is in on it.

You know the left backwards bending snopes? Had the same information right in the article. The repealed law just prevented the medical people from asking about it. There is no evidence anywhere that the government requires them to ask it.

  Just more paranoia.

The Snopes article answered the question if it was a Medicaid REQUIREMENt.
No, not by Medicaid. Yet.

Ooooh. Barbie is a Canadian citizen so she can't vote. Big deal, she can still contribute to campaigns and do things for candidates. That statement is pure cover for them.
In 2000 he registered as a Repuke. Big deal #2. That was then. Notice they didn't say he voted Repuke. Cover by omission.
My statement is based on my own observations from using the website, not on any Internet rumor. Many people I know have also noticed their leftward drift over the years.

I've seen the question about guns in the house on several patient information questionnaires that I have filled out.  I either ignore the question, or write a comment that "This is not a medically relevant question".  I figure that most likely, whoever is reading the questionnaire takes either of those answers as "gun owner".

I think I'm going to start writing "Molon Labe!" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molon_labe) next to that question every time I see it now...   ;D

A Dr. asked me the question once and my reply was "Does your wife like it in the butt?" I could tell I shocked him and I followed up with "Too personal? Well, that has about as much relevance to our business here today as whether I have guns in the house."

He never asked a second time.

It was the David Koresh and the Branch Dividians..........no, that was outside Waco, Texas.

I do not know who, if anybody, is having the Medical people ask this question.  I have been hospitalized 3 times this year at two different hospitals because I keep having heart attacks.  I have been asked that at both different hospitals, it was on one of the insurance forms and the cardiac rehab place wanted to know.  The place that did my stress test wanted to know if I was a hunter, police officer or in the military. I just told them "no".  That is my short slang for "no I will not answer that question"

That question is on the questionare I fill out at my annual physical each year. My doctor says its the insurance company that wants to know. He is an avid hunter and shooter like the rest of us and doesn't like it, but the insurance company reguires it for a physical. I always leave it blank.

It has to do with laws concerning domestic violence. Theres all sorts of forms and paperwoork that needs done when a patients checks into a hoospital. Some docs ask as part of their protocols, some insurance companies ask, etc... They ask questions to all patients about if they feel threatened, do they live alone, are they afraid to go back home, does anybody want to hurt them and so on, the gun question is included as part of the law passed. Not sure if its part of a grand plan, I'm sure folks who want could glean info off it, but as always deny, deny, deny.

Maybe I'm a glass is half full guy.  Many of us don't give humanity enough credit.  If our economy crashed, or a physical disaster strikes most people would strap up their boots and pull together, not apart.  I for one will not live my life in a constant state of fear, if the big meteor is about to render us extinct I'll be watching it come in my lawn chair with a beer in one hand and a fine cigar in the other.

I think that's generally true. All went fairly well in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Some couldn't get fuel for their generators on the second(?) day though. What if it was longer? A larger area damaged?

Figure of speech I'm sure.
But if you read the OP... If all your screwdrivers are out back in the chicken coop, you can give them an honest answer: "NO".

I have 50+ pounds of flour 'in the coop'. Someone in midtown Manhattan might not understand why, but I do. And it's not paranoia ;)

Couple of good friends are Mormon. They have a years worth of food in reserve, or are supposed to. Paranoid, or preparedness?

I sure wish you would join the Arena portion of the forum, I'd like to openly discuss the pros and cons of gun ownership and why I think that being paranoid is not paranoia at all.  I personally won't bury my weapons, they were all lost in a tragic boating accident just 45 minutes ago, I'd go back and recover them, but after walking for 2 weeks without water or nourishment I seem to have forgotten where the boat went down. :)
