Figured you guys and gals would have some good suggestions. Looking to heat the corner of my garage while I tune/wax my skis. I've just winterized the bike and changing past times. Since some of you work on your bikes over winter, I thought you'd could recommend a good heater.
I figured radiant versus hot air would be best, not looking to spend 100's of dollars.
Thanks in advanced.

How many hundreds? Is your garage attached or free standing? Insulated? Want to heat the whole area or section off? What temps are you dealing with? What type of floor? What's your power availibility?
Did I miss anything?

My wife got me one of these a couple years ago and it works great!

I have 2 of these and they work great. Mine heat up quicker than the model Jay shared, they are Silverdammit ;D

I don't know, maybe $150. Attached, Insulated (I think), Heat just a corner, Central Mass Temps 20-30's, Concrete, Electicity

Thanks ZG, will investigate.

Yep. with the family I have 7 Pairs to tune/wax, in the house would make a mess, could do it in the basement and have considered it. But then it means lugging 7 pairs through the house, then down and up every week, versus just off and across from the car.

I would hang a tarp like a shower curtain and hang one of these from the ceiling.

I found a used electric furnace on Craigslist for $50. Another $30 for a programmable thermostat and some wiring to hook it up and I was done. I keep the garage at 50 all winter so I don't have to winterize anything. Not sure what it costs to run but electric bills are lower in winter than summer bills with AC running. (House is gas heat)
Programmable thermostat is nice. If I know I am going to work out there after coming home from my regular job, I can set it to come on an hour or so before I get home and it is nice and warm for working t-shirt and shorts.

I feel so low-tech. I use a dual reflector gas heater mounted on top of a propane tank. On the plus side, I've used it for heat during ice storms when the power is out.
-
You could just leave the car running in the garage with it's heater on.

The bike too, don't forget about all that heat Connie puts out. ;)

It only puts out heat when it's hot outside, not when it's cold. When it's cold, it's a frigid beasty indeed.

He's got the new and improved 2010 model. They don't get hot, or so I hear.

Boy do you have that right!

+1
I use a single but it works well. I tarp off a 14' x 12' area.

Don't you have to worry about CO when burning propane with the radiant heads?

What's a garage?

Not for long...

No, the garage is hardly airtight. I concerned myself about it once, but After using portable kerosene heaters for years in Japan, and having to use a propane heater like this for almost a week when an ice storm took out the power - we had it in the living room as it was the biggest room. If it didn't get us then....
