Title: Wyoming
Post by: shokdimn on May 20, 2011, 03:30:41 PM
A few pix from a broke down ole rider and wife enjoying a bit of scenery—some of it from two wheels.   Yes, a trailer was used.  Just ain’t up to “tuffin-it-out” now-a-days.

A few more pix from the Bighorn Mts.

This fellow had NO appreciation for the C14.  As I was riding away from the CG I caught a glimpse of something black moving through the trees and toward me from the right as I was entering a right-hander.  I figured it was a bear at first and he just wanted to cross the road. So, I sped up a bit in an effort to get out of the way.  BTW, I was still in 1st gear.  Well, the black form sped up too and was now “breaking cover”.  I saw that it was a moose and he was on an intercept course.  I wicked it up a bit w/o engaging KTRAC and cleared his intercept point with no trouble.  Once I was a few hundred feet clear of him, I stopped and took this pic of him.  To me, he had sort of a disappointed look on his face.  Who knows what was on his mind.  Maybe he didn’t like the bike’s color.  One thing is for sure, I didn’t want to go tangle with him.  Not the first moose I’ve seen in the Bighorns.

Nice pictures, It looks like you had a very nice ride. I spent a couple of days riding the Big Horns in late August. Took the time to find the old section of 14A which was bypassed several years ago, It has some great scenery but is really a Goat Trail.

Thx Roadie and Roadhound.  Glad ya’ll enjoyed the pix.
I can’t get enough of Montana and Wyoming.

Sounds like a winner to me.  Would love to have my dirtbike out there with me.  Plenty of trails in the Bighorns.

Hwy 16 is a great road too IMO.  In fact, I kinda think 16 a longer scenic ride than 14A or 14.  How about you?

BTW, did ya manage to ride the Chief Joseph and Beartooth Hwys while you were in the area?

Hwy 16 is always a great ride, I usually ride 16 east to west, 14 west to east to Dayton , 14 back to Burgess Junction and then 14 A west to Lovell. This year I camped in Greybull for a couple of nights and rode all of the above in both directions.

I then camped in Yellowstone for 4 nights to do a little Trout Fishing along with some riding, I learned long ago that you just don't pass up the Beartooth or Chief Joseph when in the area.

Pics below, Green Oasis Campground, Greybull, Wy and  Indian Creek Campground, Yellowstone NP

Awesome pics.  I hope my dad and I make it out to the Big Horns (around Sheridan, WY where he grew up) within the next couple of years.

Sounds great.  Wonderful scenery on what I consider lightly trafficked roads.  One thing though, I liked 14A on the west side downhill toward Lovell before it was repaved.  Then again, for me, that goes for the other roads out there too.  Guess I just prefer the “rougher” pavement.

I stay in the same general neighborhood in Greybull as you did.  I usually make base camp in the KOA there.  I like their diner, as I’ve enjoyed a few tasty meals there.  I also like one of the local motels there.

COPY THAT!

Rough storm came thru the CG.
Only two tents were left standing.  A couple of small two wheeled camper trailers were truned over, limbs and debris were blown everywhere.

That's a great photo set. Thanks for posting it. I went out to Cody in 09 to ride and just loved the area. We were able to ride the Beartooth Pass, Chief Joseph Highway, Yellowstone park, and the Wind River Canyon. I was looking to head out to the Tetons but it was just too far form our campground and I only had 4 days.

Here are the photos I took:

My compliments on your website.  Enjoyed the pix.  Thx for sharing.  For me, reading other folk's ride reports takes a bit of the edge off wintertime.

BTW, I’m a fan of the WRC too.

Pretty much, my web site is there so I can relive my trips during down times like this. It's nice that others can enjoy them as well.

Happy riding brother!

That’s not my bike.  I had my C14 with me.  A married couple were traveling on that bike.  It was a very nice looking Harley and I believe it was “quiet pricey”.  The bike’s owners went into town that evening before the storm hit.  They didn’t get back to the CG until later at night.  Imagine their shock :yikes: upon returning and seeing that!

The bike had been on its side for a few hours; however, once the bike was righted it fired right-up.  I didn’t get to see the “downed” side of the bike during daylight hours and don’t really have an idea of how bad it was damaged.

I'm sure it had damaged sails and possibly even a couple cannons were bent up.  That is why a pirate ship needs to be anchored during a storm.   ;D

Happens. If I hadn't been standing by my Vulcan in '08, the Santa Anna Winds would have pushed it over on I-15. Had to stand and hold it down for an hour.  :-\
