Yet another new member - Michigan
« on: May 25, 2017, 09:29:00 PM »
Howdy!

Technically, I don't have a C14 yet, but will in 12 hours. So no pic... yet.  :(

Tomorrow I'll be picking up my new '16 black Connie! Been riding for 5 years, and this will be my 5th bike. I'm trying to find "the one".

Honda Shadow 750 - Comfy, but no suspension
V Strom 1000 - Too tall, prone to tuning issues (stock)
Yamaha FZ1 - Perfect, should have stopped here.
V Star 1300 Deluxe - Comfy and nothing wrong.. but boring to ride.

Thought faring, GPS and radio and stuff would be nice. It was. Unfortunately, riding a touring cruiser just doesn't have the fun factor I was looking for. I'm hoping the Connie will give me the comfy touring with the fun factor when needed.  8)

Been pouring over the user manual and posts here for the last few days... so much info. It's good to see an active community for this bike. I hope to be part of it.

And 150 miles later, I'm still grinning.

Compared to my previous V Star 1300, this thing is smooth as silk. Damn that 3,000 RPM, 600 mile, break-in period though! Taking every responsible bone in my body to resist a little more twist. Bleh.. unintentional rhyme.

Time to install ram mounts, grab-on squishy grip thingies and shop for a radiator guard.

Opinions vary of course, but many suspect that the break-in period is to break the rider into the bike, not to break-in the bike. There seems to be two break-in periods for this model, the first one that you are going through now where you get used to the bike, and the second one where you become re-broke into it after you get the first set of good tires. You said "new" right?...if so the tires that came with it are also break-in tires.. (not very good) when you replace those around 4-5 k miles you get a "new" bike all over again.

But yeah, like Hooligan said, a photo would be nice.  :)

Nice? I'd say mandatory.

Fine, fine! I'll bow to peer pressure! hehe. :)

I imagine I will go the route of some PR4 tires when the time comes. Have had good experience with previous bikes.
