Picked up a new Strom 1K today!!!
« on: December 16, 2014, 06:18:54 PM »
I recently sold my '90 V-Max and '08 SV, and had a HUGE hole in my garage!!!

I've been looking and researching these for a bit.

Congratulations. I like them too. Why did you choose the Vstrom over the BMW GS, the "gold standard" according to most motorcycle magazines (no, I am not a beemer fanatic)

I'm guessing less than half the price.

Probably half!

I didn't really look at any other adventure type bikes.

The new Strom seemed to have everything I wanted, and is probably the cheapest "big" bike avail.

Seems to be some good deals on the Super T though.

Probably a letdown on power, but as long as it was a secondary bike, I could live with that.

I've never ridden a storm but love my Suzuki DR650. With a Corbin seat and a tombstone shield just comfy enough to ride pavement but really shines off the pavement on Forest Service roads and such.

Finally got a ride!

High 40's and drizzle, but I couldn't stand it.

The seating position is really good. Throttle is a bit snatchy.
Clutch/shifting feels awesome. The motor seems a bit weak, but I was expecting that from what I'm used to riding. Not bad, just "less"

The biggest thing was the 19" front wheel. That feels odd, but I'm sure it will just take a bit of getting used too.

Gauges were nice, lots of good info. Giant tach, gear selector and MPH. The rest is kinda small.

I'm happy so far!!!

Not a fan of the can.  Like the old one better in that department.  Sounds like you bought it without a test ride.   :o

I won't buy a bike without a test ride.  Might not be the exact bike I buy, but I will ride the same model.  No ride, no buy.

+1 I don't understand dealers that will not allow test rides. Would NEVER buy a bike without a test ride.

I have the first gen and the improvements on the new Vee2 when compared is immense. The power is more than adequate, it just lays it down differently than lets say a C14 and it is sneaky quick. The suspension and brakes are excellent, traction control works perfectly, the bike is so light and agile it is like a toy, TONS of aftermarket goodies to make it what you want, and it is just a superb touring machine. The sound that a 90 degree race twin makes with proper exhaust is just music to the ears and soul, and the engine breaking in the twisty stuff is great. Yeah I love the V-Stroms, they are so versatile and DEAD RELIABLE........there is a 2003 out there with over 350K on it, still has great compression and the latest oil sample still proved things are working well internally. He uses nothing but FRAM oil filters and Castrol GTX 10W40 car oil, so I guess you can say the engine platform is very robust and solid.

LOL yeah you can say that, I am on my 2nd Strom. No bikes can do as much as well as the ADV style bikes, they are just so versatile. I REALLY LIKE the new 1000, but the Super Tenere is calling my name hard these days. Hard to tell with me, might just get a new 1000 as I was that impressed with it.  8)
