Haven't learned yet have ya?
Besides, I saw lots of room in your garage in your photos, you're clearly just a neat freak.

I think I learned =)

Back at it.  Today I did front and rear sprocket (ratio 14/49), aftermarket chain guard, and chain.  Also swapped to the extra set of wheels.  The set on it had "Avon Distantania" crap.  20 hours on the bike, and the original owner needed two sets of wheels?

Anyway, the Ironman brand sprocket I saw on Jason's KTM in Death Valley i was told is second to none and went on tonight

I NEED AN OFF-ROAD SOLUTION for a bike stand.  That is coming soon.  The race stand was great for the track bike but.....   There's not even a place on this bike to put spools and I had to turn the stand thing-majigs upside down and put them under the swing-arm

******Didn't trust the stand much, put two car jackstands under the center of the bike.  One on a GQ Magazine, the other on the AMA American Motorcycle magazine.  I don;t pay much attention to either, but they kept my lift from being gouged up.  Caught a picture of that get-up when I got the sweet chain guard.  I'll have a real stand soon.

Hand guards. 6 gal tank, and euro fender are in the garage waiting....

Finished for the night!

Nice.

Thanks Steve!

"HIGHWAY DIRT BIKE" brand hand guards. I had never heard of them but Jason and a bunch of others highly suggested.

Many suggested these and there are 5 things i noticed I like over the competitors I'm familiar with or used:

1) no "expanding inserts" into the bar ends, this company literally provided a die tool and I THREADED the bar ends (inside of handlebars for a top duty insert)
2) the mirrors, OMG the mirrors! On road out / off road in
3) ADB billet handlebar mount (bike porn dash!) which will house RAM balls, switches, LED indicators, heated gear outlet, etc
4) precisely fit the bike during initial install with zero adjustments in a vise
5) thicker billet material but still light

Dislike:

PRICE!  GEEZ!

OH MY I'm liking this.  The bars connect to this and it replaces the stock top handlebar mount. Designed to work over my Scotts damper, and will house LED indicators, switches (for auxillary lighting) , RAM balls, heated gear plug, powerlets

Mirror action

Thanks!   I'm way under budget. The bike with 20 whole hours and spare wheels was about given to me. The steering damper sand handguards were the highest expenditure yet at a few hundred, most of the other stuff I've been buying on the cheap knowing real riding folks here and there =)

And the brand new condition lift cost pennies.... used hehe

Well since money is no object,...and you haven't done the suspension yet.  :o

Where is the titanium shock spring?

How about an FMF "Power Bomb" Titanium exhaust and silencer?  Those two will save you 6 or 7 pounds relatively high and/or unsprung.

An Enduro Engineering seat will save almost two pounds and be much more comfortable.  Titanium nuts and bolts is worth another 3/4 of pound.

Excel hubs, a 540 kit from Thumper Racing...nah strike that do the 575 Kit.  Add a "Batwing Carb", SXS forks....Hell give me the bike and your checkbook for two weeks, I give you a real weapon back.

Thanks - Suspension will be when the guys in Vegas get their hands on it soon.  The shop doing it does Dakar bikes and such, not that it matters to me but they helped me so much on my FL to Death Valley trip I can't describe in one post  :D

Suspension is most important to me, HP means not much it makes enough. When it needs engine work we'll get it bored.

Next lets sort the back of the bike with a Tugger and "euro fender" LED tail and license plate lights. The euro fender not only is LED but much smaller and doesn't hang down at an angle.

TUGGER is to make it easier to pick the bike up. The company embroidered stevewfl for me, which used to stand for steve west florida but with not knowing how to ride off-road now indicates STEVE WILL FALL LOTS

euro fender with LED... so smooth so clean...

The mods installed and rear of bike sorted how i need it.

I don't see any mention of lights  :)  Daryl also has some sick heated grips, digitally controlled.  I'll have a set on the 520 and VFR this week :P

I noticed on your other thread that you intended to run this bike in the Schmokie Mountains.  Given being a newcomer to the dirt you might pick up another chain and sprocket set for eastern woods riding.  13/52 or 13/53 should be good.

I got a hookup on VisionX and owe the dude big for the help and hospitality when I was out west, but I'll look at those.  You got a discount there too?  ;D

Thank you sir, I spend the summers in the mountains but only experience I have riding them is dragging my knee puck and crumbling the sides of 17" street tires  ;D

I'll be doing the desert first and between single track there's lots of straights, and sometimes tarmac between the off-road routes so I'm good 14/49.  I'll keep this in mind when I head up to Asheville for the summer though!  Man wow i don't remember what the stock gearing was, 15/45 if I recall.  It was horribly tall in 1st gear.

15/45 is correct.  Great for a motard, not so much dodging trees and bouncing over rock gardens.  You want it to be able to crawl at about idle on flat ground without wanting to stall or buck or fart.  It also closes up the gaps to 2nd and 3rd giving you more options.  In Ashville area you will rarely see 4th.

Rekluse eliminates clutching, it doesn't give you usable ratios for the terrain. ;)

Au, contraire!!  Clutch is still usable ;D  A different approach is needed and there is a learning curve, but usable.  I like the Z Start Pro way more than the EXP, better feel, more predictable engagement point.  If Rekluse ever gets off their slow motion progress I will have one in the F8GS.
