Back in 2007 when I lived in South Texas and rode into Mexico every day I cleaned this pile of dirt out of the air filter on my 06 CBR1000RR at 12K miles.  After that I started checking it afterevery oil change.

Change the air filter every 18,000 miles, but with inspections every 6 000 miles.
I walk the streets with good bottom.

It sounds like a line from a U2 song or something.

I've replaced mine twice at slightly over 20k miles, and both times it was too dirty.  I'll have to shorten that interval to about 15k, which means this fall, if the snow ever melts here in MN.  I did ride about 40 miles on Saturday in 36 F heat :o to get my bike to the trailer taking us to Austin for this weekends MotoGP.  It was worth it.

Don't know how you are able to get the filter out with the outer plastic in the way.  On my 08 it didn't seem like there was anyway to do it.  Maybe my hands are too big or I'm klutzy.

I don't know of a way to remove it on the 08/09 models without taking the upper tupperware on the left side off.  However, it doesn't take that long once you've done it a few times.

This was mine at about 15,000 miles.  The sun is behind the filter.

PS:Conrad & Jim  :grouphug:
My air filter is dancer, walks on all roads. Maintenance, here is the result after 18,000 miles, it is always in order.

You might want to change it at 15k miles based on that picture...

I screwed up, after I posted I had the perfect edit and then was late for work and forgot to change it.  It was meant to read:

"Your filter performs well, don't let it get away!"

8.5 years, 43,428miles.  Here is the photo.  Dirty, for sure.  But not as bad as I thought it might be- I can still see light through it with a flashlight.  Most of the discoloration is on the leading edges of the folds, it is much cleaner further down into the pleats. Even so, this was considerably overdue.

When forum was moved, all my photos on all the old threads are gone?  Here is the missing photo.
