Greetings From the Great Lake State
« on: March 31, 2014, 05:06:33 AM »
Hi,
New member from Michigan.  I just picked up my new 2012 Candy Arabian Red C14 from Sport Cycles in Rockingham, NC last Saturday.  I am very impressed with their entire operation and all of the courtesy that they afforded me.....highly recommended!

I'm in my mid 60's, retired, and a motorcycle nut as are many of you.   I currently ride a Suzuki V-Strom and have been riding for well over forty years.  I also restore vintage Honda CB four cylinder bikes as a hobby, and own an award winning 1973 Norton 850 Commando. The new C14 is the 8th bike in my current collection and hopefully will not be my last.

I have a lot to learn about the new Connie and will probably be asking for info and advice from time to time.  This looks to be a very good forum as I've been lurking for several weeks but lusting for the C14 for months.

It's kind of a long story and probably not appropriate from a new member......maybe when I get a couple hundred posts...... ;)   But I do use this user name on other bike forums, you're actually the first person to mention it.

Thanks for the welcome!

The Norton is a real piece of work....Positive ground electrical system, Lucas electrics (commonly called the "Prince of Darkness") Amal carbs ....(not worth the pot metal that they're made of) and good ole' kick-start only.  50 weight oil and below 60 deg. a real "treat" to start and the maintenance schedule is ride it for one hour and wrench on it for two.   However it is a joy to hear running and sounds way better than any H-D (sorry Harley lovers) and a real attention getter and fun to ride!
I've added some modern improvements such as 36mm Mikuni carb and a Tri-Spark electronic ignition system which generally makes it in to a 1-2 kick starter.

Welcome!

When I first read your name I thought that it said Oddbalz.    :o

I for one would love to see a pic of that Norton.  :)

OldBalz, OddBalz, NoBalz,.....Hey I'll answer to just about anything... ;D

Thanks for the Welcome.....I will be spending the next couple of days working on my V-Strom to get it ready to sell and spent most of today familiarizing myself with the C14.

I had to replace the FOB battery today because I got the dreaded "Transponder Low Battery" message and the solid red idiot light on the dash.  Four bucks for two new CR2025s and all is well.  The bike has zero miles on it as I haven't even ridden up my driveway yet.

I'll try to post some Norton pics and a couple of my 1975 Honda CB550 in a few days.
